Aberayron railway station in Aberaeron was the terminus of the Lampeter, Aberayron and New Quay Light Railway branch line of the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth Line in Ceredigion, Wales. The branch diverged from the through line at Lampeter. History The station was incorporated into the Great Western Railway during the Grouping of 1923, passing on to the Western Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948. Passenger services were discontinued in 1951 and freight in 1963. Aberaeron
Aberaeron, previously anglicised as Aberayron, is a town, community, and electoral ward between Aberystwyth and Cardigan, in Ceredigion, Wales. Ceredigion County Council offices are in Aberaeron. The name of the town is Welsh for ''mouth of the Aeron'', derived from the Middle Welsh ', "slaughter", which gave its name to Aeron, who is believed to have been a Welsh god of war. The population was 1,520 in 2001, and 1,422 in 2011. History and design In 1800, there was no significant coastal settlement here. The present town was planned and developed from 1805 by the Rev. Alban Thomas Jones Gwynne. He built a harbour which operated as a port and supported a shipbuilding industry in the 19th century. A group of workmen's houses and a school were built on the harbour's north side, but these were reclaimed by the sea.

Ceredigion

Lampeter Railway Station
Lampeter railway station, on the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth Line in Wales, was built to serve the town of Lampeter. It opened in 1866, six years after the line, which reached Aberystwyth in August 1867. Services at the time were limited, with only three trains running every day except Sundays. However, even this service enabled Lampeter to become an important station, although the cost of building the railway was slowly bankrupting the company. A steam Locomotive, No7 "Carmarthen", exploded at Maesycreigiau in 1890, and the Cambrian Railway took the M&M to court over unpaid bills.
