Abdur Rezzak Khan
Abdur Rezzak Khan (1900–1984) Bengali anti-British freedom fighter, communist revolutionary and politician. He was a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly in 1969. Background He was born in June 1900 at Hakimpur, 24 parganas of Bengal Presidency, British India. Political movement During the Chittagong armoury raid led by Masterda Surya Sen, he secretly supplied arms. Santosh Kumar Mitra, a revolutionary martyr, was one of his companions. Santosh Kumar Mitra
Santosh kumar Mitra (Bengali: সন্তোষ কুমার মিত্র) or Santosh Mitra (15 August 1900 – 16 September 1931) was an activist of the Indian independence movement and a martyr. Early life Mitra was born on 15 August 1900 in Kolkata, in a middle class Bengali family. He passed matriculation from Hindu School, Kolkata in 1915 and became graduate from the University of Calcutta in 1919. During the period 1921–22, he completed his M.A and LL.B. Revolutionary activities Santosh Mitra joined the Indian National Congress. He founded the Swaraj Sevak Sangha and was attached with Hooghly Vidya Mandir which was headed by Bhupati Majumder, one of the Jugantar Leaders in 1922. He organised a Socialist conference in Kolkata in the presidency of Jawaharlal Nehru. Workers And Peasants Party (India)
The Workers and Peasants Party (WPP) (also known as the Kirti Kisan Party) was a political party in India, which worked inside the Indian National Congress in 1925–1929. It became an important front organisation for the Communist Party of India and an influential force in the Bombay labour movement. The party was able to muster some success in making alliances with other left elements inside the Congress Party, amongst them Jawaharlal Nehru. However, as the Communist International entered its ' Third Period' phase, the communists deserted the WPP project. The WPP was wound up, as its leadership was arrested by the British authorities in March 1929. Abdul Halim (communist)
Abdul Halim (6 December 1901 – 29 April 1966) was an Indian-Bengali politician, and communist activist. He was a member of the West Bengal Legislative Council from 1952 to 1966. Background Halim was born in Burdwan district of Bengal Province in the British India.His father was Abul Hassan. Due to lack of funds, he was unable to complete his secondary education. Political movement In 1921, he joined Mahatma Gandhi's non-cooperation movement and was imprisoned. After his release, he made contact with Muzaffar Ahmad and Addur Rezzak Khan; and joined the Workers and Peasants Party. Muzaffar Ahmad (known as Kakababu; 5 August 1889 – 18 December 1973) was an Indian-Bengali politician, journalist and a co-founder of Communist Party of India. Background Ahmed was born at Musapur village in Sandwip Island in Chittagong District of Bengal Province in the-then British India (in present-day Bangladesh) to Mansur Ali and Chuna Bibi. Ahmed studied at the Asria Senior Madrasa in Bamni, Companiganj. He passed matriculation from Noakhali Zilla School in 1913. In 1918, he was appointed joint secretary of " Bangio Musalman Sahitya Samiti". In 1920, along with Kazi Nazrul Islam he started a new magazine, '' Nabajug''. Surya Sen
Surya Sen, also called Surya Kumar Sen (22 March 189412 January 1934), was an Indian revolutionary who was influential in the Indian independence movement against British rule in India and is best known for leading the 1930 Chittagong armoury raid. Sen was a school teacher by profession and was popularly known as ''Master Da'' ("da" is an honorific suffix in Bengali language). He was influenced by the nationalist ideals in 1916 while he was a student of B.A. in Berhampore College (Now MES College). In 1918, he was selected as president of the Indian National Congress's Chittagong branch. Sen was known for recruiting a group of young and passionate revolutionaries known as the Chittagong group. The Chittagong armoury raid, also known as the Chittagong uprising, was an attempt on 18 April 1930 to raid the armoury of police and auxiliary forces from the Chittagong armoury in the Bengal Presidency of British India (now in Bangladesh) by armed Indian independence fighters led by Surya Sen.
