Abbey Town Railway Station
Abbey Town railway station was on the branch line off the Solway Junction Railway in the English county of Cumberland (later Cumbria). The first station after Abbey Junction on the branch to Silloth on the Solway Firth, it served the village of Abbey Town. The station closed with the line to Silloth in 1964. History Opened as Abbey by the Carlisle and Silloth Bay Railway in 1856, then renamed Abbey Town by the North British Railway in 1889, it became part of the London and North Eastern Railway during the Grouping of 1923. Abbey Town
Abbeytown, also known as Holme Abbey, is a village and civil parish in the Allerdale borough of Cumbria, England. The name Abbeytown dates to the mid-17th century (''The Towne of the Abbey'', ''Abbey Towne''; ''Abbeytown'' from mid-18th century) and is named after the Holmcultram Abbey founded in the 12th century. The population of the civil parish as of the 2011 census was 819. It is located five-and-a-half miles south-east of Silloth, and six-and-a-half miles north-west of Wigton. The civil parish borders Holme Low to the north, Holme East Waver and Dundraw to the east, Bromfield to the south, and Holme St Cuthbert to the west. The county town of Carlisle is eighteen miles to the north-east. Other nearby settlements include Foulsyke, Highlaws, Kelsick, Mawbray, Pelutho, and Wheyrigg. The B5302 road runs through the village. Sleightholme Railway Station
Sleightholme was an early, short lived railway station near Newton Arlosh, Cumbria on the Carlisle & Silloth Bay Railway & Dock Company's branch from to The station served the small hamlet of Newton Arlosh and its rural surrounds, but was named after a farm which was nearer than the village. Its timetable entries show trains calling on Saturdays Only. It only appeared in public timetables from September 1856 to June 1857. By 1866 no trace of the station could be seen on OS maps. Uffington, Shropshire
Uffington is a village and civil parish in the English county of Shropshire. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 234. It lies between Haughmond Hill and the River Severn, 3 miles east from the town centre of Shrewsbury, at . Uffington is home to a church and a pub, the Corbet Arms. London Midland Region Of British Railways
The London Midland Region (LMR) was one of the six regions created on the formation of the nationalised British Railways (BR), and initially consisted of ex-London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) lines in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The region was managed first from buildings adjacent to Euston station, and later from Stanier House in Birmingham.
