''Aalahayude Penmakkal'' ( en, Daughters of God the father) is a Malayalam novel written by Sarah Joseph and published in 1999. The novel is the first in the trilogy which includes 'Mattathi' and ' Othappu'. This novel gave widespread recognition to Sarah Joseph and her craft. Sarah Joseph (author)
Sarah Joseph (born 1946) is an Indian novelist and short story writer in Malayalam. She won the Sahitya Akademi Award, Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award and the Vayalar Award for her novel ''Aalahayude Penmakkal'' (Daughters of God the Father). She is a leader of the feminist movement in Kerala and is the founder of the activist organization Manushi. She joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2014 and contested the 2014 Indian general election, 2014 parliament elections from Thrissur. Biography Sarah Joseph was born into a conservative Christian family at Kuriachira in Thrissur city in 1946 to Louis and Kochumariam. She was married at the age of 15 when she was in class IX. She attended the teacher's training course and began her professional career as a school teacher. ''Othappu'' ( en, Scandal or Temptation) is a Malayalam novel written by Sarah Joseph and published in 2005. The novel is the last in the trilogy which includes 'Alaahayude Penmakkal' and 'Mattathi'. While 'Mattathi' is a kind of sequel to 'Alaahayude Penmakkal', 'Othappu' follows the pattern by having a central female character and protagonist. The novel deals with the decision of a nun to step outside the convent and embrace a life free from the shackles of established religious norms and practices. Kerala Sahitya Academy
The Kerala Sahitya Akademi or Academy for Malayalam literature is an autonomous body established to promote the Malayalam language and literature. It is situated in City of Thrissur, Kerala in India. History The academy was inaugurated on 15 October 1956, by Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the former king of Travancore, in Thiruvananthapuram. It was shifted to its present location at City of Thrissur in September, 1957. Though the Kerala Government provides the funding and support for the academy, the administration of the academy is autonomous according to its constitution.
