A Present For Dickie
''A Present for Dickie'' is a British television comedy aired from 1969 to 1970 on ITV. Cast included Dickie Henderson, Fabia Drake, Dennis Ramsden and Billy Burden. It was produced by Thames Television. All six episodes are believed to be lost. Premise On his way back from a tour of the Far-East, Dickie is followed home by a baby elephant. Farcical situations ensue as Dickie tries to keep "Mini" hidden from visitors. ITV (TV Network)
ITV is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network. It was launched in 1955 as Independent Television to provide competition to BBC Television (established in 1936). ITV is the oldest commercial network in the UK. Since the passing of the Broadcasting Act 1990, it has been legally known as Channel 3 to distinguish it from the other analogue channels at the time, BBC1, BBC2 and Channel 4. ITV was for four decades a network of separate companies which provided regional television services and also shared programmes between each other to be shown on the entire network. Dickie Henderson
Richard Matthew Michael Henderson, OBE (30 October 1922 – 22 September 1985) was an English entertainer. Early years He was born in London. His father, Dick Henderson (1891–1958), was a music hall comedian and singer famous for his short, rotund appearance, bowler hat and beautiful singing voice. He was well known for making the original British recording of the popular song "Tiptoe Through the Tulips". His two sisters Winifred and Teresa ('Triss') known as "the Henderson Twins", were also performers in the style of the Andrews Sisters. Henderson was privately educated in both Hollywood, when his father was touring in vaudeville, and Britain, at St Joseph's College, Beulah Hill, London. Fabia Drake
Fabia Drake OBE (born Ethel McGlinchy; 20 January 1904 – 28 February 1990) was a British actress whose professional career spanned almost 73 years during the 20th century. Drake was born in Herne Bay, Kent. Her first professional role in a film was in Fred Paul's ''Masks and Faces'' (1917), and her last role was as Madame de Rosemonde in Miloš Forman's ''Valmont'' (1989). Drake was a lifelong friend of Noël Coward and Laurence Olivier. Early life Born Ethel McGlinchy, the actress's Irish father, a caterer, was an actor manqué. She passed an entrance test to the Academy of Dramatic Art (later to become RADA) in December 1913. Billy Burden
William George Burden (15 June 1914 – 3 June 1994) was an English actor and comedian, who specialised in playing "country bumpkin" roles. He made many appearances in the Theatre Royal panto in Bath, Somerset for Frank Maddox. Debuted on ITV as William in the TV series ''A Present for Dickie'' (1969–70), but only six episodes were made. From 1972 to 1984 he guested many times on the touring cabaret show "The Rick Jango Road Show" In 1978, he guest-starred as a farmer in the episode 'Nappy Days' of '' George & Mildred''. In 1980, he starred in another short-lived TV series, '' Oh, Happy Band'', playing the role of Mr Sowerby. Again, only six episodes were made. In 1982, he appeared in the Val Guest film ''The Boys in Blue'' (as the herdsman). Burden also guest-starred four times in ''Hi-de-Hi!''; three times as Mr Turner (1986 & 1988) and once as Mr Thompson (1986). Thames Television, commonly simplified to just Thames, was a Broadcast license, franchise holder for a region of the British ITV (TV network), ITV television network serving Greater London, London and surrounding areas from 30 July 1968 until the night of 31 December 1992. Thames Television broadcast from 9:25 Monday morning to 5:15 Friday afternoon (7:00 Friday night until 1982) at which time it would hand over to London Weekend Television (LWT).
