Tengiz Abuladze
Tengiz Abuladze ( ka, თენგიზ აბულაძე; 31 January 1924 – 6 March 1994) was a Georgian film director, screenwriter, theatre teacher and People's Artist of the USSR. He is regarded as one of the best Soviet directors. Biography Abuladze studied theatre direction (1943–1946) at the Shota Rustaveli Theatre Institute, Tbilisi, Georgia, and filmmaking at the VGIK (All-Union State Institute of Cinematography) in Moscow. He graduated from VGIK in 1952 and in 1953 he joined Gruziya-film (Georgia Film Studios) as a director. He was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1980. His first film, ''Magdana's Donkey'' (1956), which he directed with Rezo Chkheidze, won the "Best Fiction Short" award at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival. Leonid Georgievich Yengibarov ( hy, Լեոնիդ Ենգիբարյան; russian: Леонид Георгиевич Енгибаров; March 15, 1935 – July 25, 1972) was a Soviet Armenian clown and actor. Biography Leonid Yengibarov was born in Moscow to an Armenian father and a Russian mother. He started his career as a boxer. In 1955 he joined the State School of Circus Art, Clownship department. He graduated from Circus school with skills in juggling, acrobatics, and hand balancing. After graduation in 1959 he moved to Yerevan and joined the Armenian state circus. He was one of the first Soviet clowns to create the poetic, intellectual clownery, which made spectators think, not only laugh. Otar Megvinetukhutsesi ( ka, ოთარ მეღვინეთუხუცესი; 16 January 1932, Tbilisi – 9 May 2013, Tbilisi) was a Georgian film and theatre actor. Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR (1964), People's Artist of the Georgian SSR (1973), People's Artist of the USSR (1979), Commander of the Order of Honour (Georgia), Order of Honour (2000). Winner of the Tokyo International Film Festival (1991) and the Georgian State Prize (1981, 2001). He graduated from the Shota Rustaveli Theater Institute in 1954. He played more than 35 roles during his career including a memorable role in the 1978 film ''Data Tutashkhia (film), Data Tutashkhia''. Megvinetukhutsesi was married to the Georgian actress Guranda Gabunia (1938–2019). He died at the age of 81 in Tbilisi in 2013. He was buried at the Didube Pantheon in Tbilisi. Kakhi Kavsadze ( ''K’akhi K’avsadze''; June 5, 1935 – April 27, 2021) was a Georgian and Soviet film, television and stage actor. Early life He was born in Tbilisi. After his birth, his parents moved to Tkibuli. Ramaz Chkhikvadze (; 28 February 1928 – 17 October 2011) was a Georgian film and theater actor. First appearing in the 1954 film ''The Dragonfly'' (), he starred in over 60 films during his career. He won the award for Best Actor at the 8th Moscow International Film Festival for his role in '' The Saplings''. Ramaz Chkhikvadze caused a sensation when he appeared on stage as Richard III at the 1979 Edinburgh Festival in a production of Shakespeare's play by the Rustaveli Theatre Company of Tbilisi, Georgia, then still part of the Soviet Union. Honoring him posthumously, Georgian President Saakashvili issued a statement in which he said "Mr. Ramaz was a distinguished star of Georgian film and theatre and a creator of an entire epoch. Erosi Manjgaladze ( ka, ეროსი მანჯგალაძე; March 3, 1925 – January 26, 1982) was a Soviet and Georgian stage and film actor who played lead roles in some of the most popular Soviet films, such as '' The Wishing Tree'', '' Melodies of Vera Quarter,'' ''Londre,'' ''Kvevri'' and '' A Necklace for My Beloved''.
