A Man Of No Importance (film)
''A Man of No Importance'' is a 1994 comedy drama film written by Barry Devlin and directed by Suri Krishnamma, starring Albert Finney. Plot summary Alfred Byrne is a closeted homosexual bus conductor in 1963 Dublin. His sister tries to find him a suitable woman, but his real passion is putting on amateur theatre productions of Oscar Wilde plays, particularly ''Salome''. The film deals with his struggle, temptation, and friendships, and how they are affected by his homosexuality. Alfred is a bus conductor who recites poetry and Oscar Wilde play lines to his regular bus riders. This year he hopes to put together the Wilde play ''Salome''. Alfie lives with his sister Lily. He lines up the church hall only telling the priest that the play is about John the Baptist. A new beautiful young rider, Adele Rice, is his perfect Salome. Suri Krishnamma
Suri Krishnamma (born 10 May 1961) is a British film director and writer best known for feature films ''A Man of No Importance (film), A Man of No Importance'', ''New Year's Day (2001 film), New Year's Day'' and ''Dark Tourist'' and television dramas ''A Respectable Trade'' and ''The Cazalets''. Eileen Reid (born January 1943) is an Irish singer of the showband era. She had an Irish number 1 on 29 May 1964 with "Fallen Star", and was also known for her song "I Gave My Wedding Dress Away". Career Eileen Reid began singing as a teenager with the Melody Makers, later fronting the Cadets showband. She and the Cadets reached No. 42 on the UK Singles Chart dated 6 May 1965 with "Jealous Heart". She tried out for the 1980 Eurovision with "The Saddest Show On Earth". Joan O'Hara (10 October 1930 – 23 July 2007) was an Irish stage, film and television actress. She was one of Ireland's most popular actresses and was, at her death, recognisable to television viewers as Eunice Dunstan, a gossip in ''Fair City'' on RTÉ One.
