''A Luneta Mágica'' ( en, The Magical Glasses) is a 1869 in literature, 1869 romance novel, novel written by Brazilian Romanticism, Romantic writer Joaquim Manuel de Macedo. It is considered to be one of the first Brazilian fantasy, fantastic novels ever, comparable to the works of E. T. A. Hoffmann. Plot The book tells the story of Simplício, a naive and Near-sightedness, nearsighted man who lives with his brother Américo, an up-and-coming politician, his cousin Anica, his extremely religious aunt Domingas, and his fervent desire to regain his sight one day. One of Simplício's friends, an old man named Nunes, takes him to Reis, an Optometry, optometrist renowned for creating powerful lenses. Despite Reis's efforts, none of the lenses he crafts can restore Simplício's vision. A romance novel or romantic novel generally refers to a type of genre fiction novel which places its primary focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people, and usually has an "emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending." Joaquim Manuel De Macedo
Joaquim Manuel de Macedo (June 24, 1820 – May 11, 1882) was a Brazilian novelist, doctor, teacher, poet, playwright and journalist, famous for the romance '' A Moreninha''. He is the patron of the 20th chair of the Brazilian Academy of Letters. Life Joaquim Manuel de Macedo was born in the city of Itaboraí, in 1820, to Severino de Macedo Carvalho and Benigna Catarina da Conceição. He graduated in Medicine in 1844, and started to practice it in the inlands of Rio. In the same year, he published his romance ''A Moreninha''. In 1849, he founded the magazine ''Guanabara'', along with Manuel de Araújo Porto-Alegre and Gonçalves Dias. In this magazine, many parts of his lengthy poem ''A Nebulosa'' were published. Near-sightedness
Near-sightedness, also known as myopia and short-sightedness, is an eye disease where light focuses in front of, instead of on, the retina. As a result, distant objects appear blurry while close objects appear normal. Other symptoms may include headaches and eye strain. Severe near-sightedness is associated with an increased risk of retinal detachment, cataracts, and glaucoma. The underlying mechanism involves the length of the eyeball growing too long or less commonly the lens being too strong. It is a type of refractive error. Diagnosis is by eye examination.
