A here ia Porinetia () is a political party in French Polynesia. The party was formed in August 2020 and advocates a reduction in the size of the Assembly of French Polynesia to 39 members, the introduction of term limits to renew the political class, the legalisation of medicinal cannabis, and the repeal of French Polynesia's vaccination law. Formation The party was established in August 2020 by former Tapura Huiraatira MPs Nicole Sanquer, Nuihau Laurey, Bernard Natua, Teura Tarahu-Atuahiva, and Félix Tokoragi. To meet the six-MP minimum to form a group, Tahoera'a Huiraatira MP Vaitea Le Gayic was "loaned" to the party by Tahoera'a, joining it with the permission of Gaston Flosse. The party was formally registered in September 2020. The group lost its parliamentary recognition in January 2021 after Le Gayic resigned and rejoined Tahoera'a, leaving its members as independents. Nicole Sanquer
Nicole Sanquer (born 16 June 1972) is a French Polynesian politician, and former Cabinet Minister. She was a member of the French National Assembly from 2017 to 2022. Elected as a member of Tapura Huiraatira, she sits in the UDI and Independents group in the French Parliament. In 2020 she formed the A here ia Porinetia party. Early life Sanquer is the daughter of former French Polynesian education minister Nicolas Sanquer. She was educated at the University of French Polynesia, the Paul Bocuse institute of culinary arts in Écully, and ESSEC Business School, graduating with a masters degree in international hotel management in collaboration with Cornell University in 1997. After teaching at the hotel school in Tahiti, she worked as a civil servant in the protocol department of the president of French Polynesia, before serving as the head of the tourism department. 2022 French Presidential Election
The 2022 French presidential election was held on 10 and 24 April 2022. As no candidate won a majority in the first round, a runoff was held, in which Emmanuel Macron defeated Marine Le Pen and was re-elected as President of France. Macron, from La République En Marche! (LREM), had defeated Le Pen, leader of the National Rally, once already in the 2017 French presidential election, for the term which expired on 13 May 2022. Macron became the first President of France to win a re-election bid since Jacques Chirac won in 2002. Gaston Flosse
Gaston Flosse (born 24 June 1931) is a French politician who has been President of French Polynesia on five separate occasions. He is currently a member of the Senate of France and has been a French junior minister under Jacques Chirac. He received sentences for corruption, which are under appeal. Life and career Flosse was born in Rikitea, Mangareva, French Polynesia. He is of both French and Polynesian descent. Flosse supports the current autonomy arrangement between French Polynesia and France and has led the conservative pro-autonomy and anti-independence party Tahoera'a Huiraatira (People's Rally for the Republic Party) for more than 20 years. He was the vice-president of the government council from 1982 to 1984, when more autonomy was gained and he became President of the Governing Council. Félix Tokoragi
Félix Tokoragi is a French Polynesian politician and Member of the Assembly of French Polynesia. He has served as Mayor of Makemo since 2014. He was elected to the Mekemo town council in 2014 and subsequently elected mayor. In December 2017 Tokoragi handcuffed a man who had attacked him to an entrance post outside the town hall while waiting for police. In November 2021 he was fined XPF 100,000 for violence by a person holding public authority for the offence. He was re-elected as Mayor in May 2020.
