'Athletic Syllogos Olympia Vatili or ASOB Vatili was a Cypriot football team. The team was established in Vatili, Famagusta in 1939. The Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the subsequent occupation of the Vatily left ASOB with no home, no financial resources, and no stadium. Vatili
Vatili ( el, Βατυλή; tr, Vadili) is a village in the Famagusta District of Cyprus, near Lysi. ''De facto'', it is under the control of Northern Cyprus. During the British era, in the middle 1940s, a significant livestock station was built in Vatili by the authorities. In 1973, Vatili had 3,161 inhabitants; of those, 72% were Greek Cypriots and 28% Turkish Cypriots. Fearing a retaliation by the Turks for the mistreatment of Turkish Cypriots by Greek Cypriots before 1974, the Greek Cypriots of Vatili fled to the south of the island during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Famagusta District ( gr, Επαρχία Αμμοχώστου, Eparchia Ammochostu; tr, Mağusa kazası) is one of the six districts of Cyprus. Its main town is the island's most important port, Famagusta. The Turkish invasion of Cyprus began on 20 July 1974 and progressed in two phases over the following month. Taking place upon a background of Cypriot intercommunal violence, intercommunal violence between Greek Cypriots, Greek and Turkish Cypriots, and in response to a 1974 Cypriot coup d'état, Greek junta-sponsored Cypriot coup d'état five days earlier, it led to the Turkish Military occupation, capture and occupation of the Northern Cyprus, northern part of the island. The Cypriot Third Division (Greek: Πρωτάθλημα Γ΄ Κατηγορίας) is the third tier football league competition in Cyprus, run by the Cyprus Football Association. Each year, the top finishing teams of the league are promoted to the Cypriot Second Division, and the lowest finishing teams are relegated to the STOK Elite Division.
