ASL Garaiya
The is a mid-engined concept sports car developed by ASL, the car manufacturing arm of Autobacs Seven. History Autobacs Seven first announced the Garaiya on 4 December 2001 as their first sports car offering. The car's name apparently comes from that of a thief from the Ming dynasty who shared his stolen wares with those who were less well off. The car was styled by Noriyuki Nishida and engineered by Kikuo Kaira, known for his work on the Tommykaira ZZ. The Garaiya was first shown off to the public at the 2002 Tokyo Auto Salon, alongside the ASL RS01. The Garaiya was set to enter production in fall 2002 with a planned production volume of 100 cars a year at a price of ¥6,500,000 each. () is a retailer of automotive parts and accessories based in Japan, with branches primarily in Asia and stores also located in France. Etymology Autobacs was given a backronym as follows, which reflects the products the company provided prior to its renaming to Autobacs in 1980: *AUTO: Appeal, Unique, Tire, Oil *BACS: Battery, Accessory, Car electronics, Service "Seven" in the company name is said to reflect Autobacs's philosophy of searching for seventh products for customers. Tommykaira ZZII
The Tommykaira ZZII was a Japanese mid-engined sports car engineered and developed by Tommykaira in 2001. Designed by Noriyuki Nishida, the ZZII was intended to be the bigger and faster version of the ZZ, but it failed to enter production and remained in the prototype stage. Vehicle retailer Autobacs Seven bought the design shortly after it was shown and tried to market the car as the RS01. Fate and potential revival After its unveiling at the 2002 Tokyo Auto Salon, Tommykaira promised to sell the car in high volumes, with the company already having an organized delivery schedule after the show. Shortly after its unveiling, however, the design was bought out by Autobacs Seven, and later renamed the car to ASL RS01. Autobacs Racing Team Aguri
Autobacs Racing Team Aguri (ARTA) is a joint racing project formed between former F1 driver Aguri Suzuki and Autobacs Seven Co. in 1997. The team's original name was "ARTA F1 Project," but due to trademark claims based on the usage of the word "F1", the name has since been shortened to "ARTA". ARTA was the 2007 SuperGT GT500 series champion in both the drivers' and team championship. History The team was created with the objective of developing drivers that could compete in the highest levels of F1 racing.
