ARIA Award For Best World Music Album
The ARIA Music Awards, ARIA Music Award for Best World Music Album, is an award presented within the Fine Arts Awards at the annual ARIA Music Awards. It was inaugurated in ARIA Music Awards of 1995, 1995 as Best Folk/World/Traditional Release. The ARIA Awards recognise "the many achievements of Australians, Aussie artists across all music genres", and have been given by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) since 1987. Album recordings by a Musical ensemble, group or solo artist are eligible. The award is handed out for an Indigenous music, indigenous, Ethnic music, ethnic, Folk music, folk or Ethnomusicology, cross-cultural recording, and cannot be entered into any other genre category. The final nominees and winner are chosen by a judging school, which comprises between 40 and 100 members of representatives experienced in this genre.ARIA Award previous winners. The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) is a trade association representing the Australian recording industry which was established in the 1970s by six major record companies, EMI, Festival, CBS, RCA, WEA and Universal replacing the Association of Australian Record Manufacturers (AARM) which was formed in 1956. It oversees the collection, administration and distribution of music licenses and royalties. Dead Can Dance
Dead Can Dance are an Australian music duo first established in Melbourne. Currently composed of Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry, the group formed in 1981. They relocated to London the following year. Australian music historian Ian McFarlane described Dead Can Dance's style as "constructed soundscapes of mesmerising grandeur and solemn beauty; African polyrhythms, Gaelic folk, Gregorian chant, Middle Eastern music, mantras, and art rock." Having disbanded in 1998, they reunited briefly in 2005 for a world tour and reformed in 2011 when they released and toured a new album, '' Anastasis''. Cafe Of The Gate Of Salvation
Café of the Gate of Salvation is a non-denominational a cappella gospel choir based in Sydney. Formed by musical director Tony Backhouse they are named after a cafe in Istanbul. Their album ''A Window in Heaven'' was nominated for ARIA Award for Best World Music Album. The choir consists of men and women singing in four part harmonies (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) and has ranged in size from thirty to fifty members. Several founding members continue to perform with the choir. ARIA Music Awards Of 1996
The 10th Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards (generally known as the ARIA Music Awards or simply The ARIAS) was held on 30 September 1996 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. Presenters distributed 28 awards with the big winner for the year was You Am I gaining six awards. In addition to previous categories an Outstanding Achievement Award was presented to Silverchair, which acknowledged " heirconquering world charts with the single 'Tomorrow' and the debut album album ''frogstomp''." Sirocco (Australian Band)
Sirocco is an Australian music group that began in 1980 with three musicians: Bill O'Toole, Guy Madigan and Andrew de Teliga. In 1981 Michael Atherton joined and the group recorded their first album ''Paths of the Wind''.
