ANSI C
ANSI C, ISO C, and Standard C are successive standards for the C programming language published by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22/WG 14 of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Historically, the names referred specifically to the original and best-supported version of the standard (known as C89 or C90). Software developers writing in C are encouraged to conform to the standards, as doing so helps portability between compilers. History and outlook The first standard for C was published by ANSI. Decimal floating-point (DFP) arithmetic refers to both a representation and operations on decimal floating-point numbers. Working directly with decimal (base-10) fractions can avoid the rounding errors that otherwise typically occur when converting between decimal fractions (common in human-entered data, such as measurements or financial information) and binary (base-2) fractions. C17 (C Standard Revision)
C17 is the informal name for ISO/IEC 9899:2018, the most recent standard for the C programming language, prepared in 2017 and published in June 2018. It replaced C11 (standard ISO/IEC 9899:2011). C17 will be superseded by C2x. Since it was under development in 2017, and officially published in 2018, C17 is also commonly referred to as C18. GCC, for example, treats the commands -std=c17 and -std=c18 as equivalent, and the C-Standard page on the ISO-9899 wiki refers to ISO/IEC 9899:2018 as C18, only noting later that the standard is sometimes called C17.
