AMU Literary Festival
AMU Literary Festival is an annual literary festival organised by Aligarh Muslim University. University Debating and Literary Club (UDLC) formerly University Literary Club of the university organises the festival. Some of the previous invitees include news anchor and author Rajdeep Sardesai, poet Keki N. Daruwalla, politician Mani Shankar Aiyar and independent journalist Rana Ayyub. Organisation The festival is organized under the auspices of the University Literary and Debating Club of the Aligarh Muslim University. The club consists of students as its members. The festival is the University Debating and Literary Club's flagship event. Sankarshan Thakur
Sankarshan Thakur is an Indian print journalist. He was born in Bihar in 1962. His work seems deeply inspired by M.J. Akbar, under whom Thakur apprenticed as a journalist for many years. Thakur was the Executive Editor of Tehelka weekly, which he helped launch in early 2004. He has now returned to The Telegraph, where he started his journalistic career in 1985, as the newspaper's Roving Editor. He was earlier Associate Editor of The Indian Express. Thakur has covered Bihar and Kashmir extensively. Some of his most memorable stories came off the Kargil warfront in the summer of 1999. Rahman Abbas
Rahman Abbas (born 30 January 1972) is an Indian people, Indian fiction writer and the recipient of the India's highest literary Award ''Sahitya Akademi Award'' for his fourth novel ''Rohzin'' in 2018. He is also the recipient of the two State Academy Awards for his third and fourth novels respectively i.e. ''Hide and Seek in the Shadow of God'' (2011) and the ''Rohzin'' in 2017. Jerry Pinto
Jerry Pinto (born 1966) is a Mumbai-based Indian English poet, novelist, short story writer, translator, as well as journalist. Pinto's works include '' Helen: The Life and Times of an H-Bomb'' (2006), which won the Best Book on Cinema Award at the 54th National Film Awards, ''Surviving Women'' (2000) and ''Asylum and Other Poems'' (2003). Gulam Jeelani
Gulam (circa 1860-1901) was an Indian practitioner of pehlwani. Gulam participated in early catch wrestling tournaments in Europe. At 5 feet 9 inches and 280 pounds, Gulam wrestled in Paris in 1900 at the time of 1900 World's Fair. In Paris, Gulam's manager extended a challenge to Turkish wrestler Kurtdereli Mehmet Pehlivan. Pandit Motilal Nehru was in attendance during the wrestling bout in Paris. Edmond Desbonnet’s account of the bout was given in his 1910 book, ''Les Rois de la Lutte''. According to this account, the newcomer dominated Kurtdereli. In order to avoid harming the financial interests of those who bet on Kurtdereli, the bets on the bout were called off. Gulam was proclaimed the winner, but all bets were reimbursed. Gulam returned to India where, shortly after 1900, he died of cholera. Manoj Jha
Manoj Kumar Jha is an Indian politician who is a member of Rajya Sabha in Indian Parliament and a member of Rashtriya Janta Dal.
