Almo Sounds
Almo Sounds was a record label which was started in 1994 by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss after they sold A&M Records to PolyGram. The intent for the label was to recreate the initial concept of A&M Records as a small, "boutique" label. The label signed artists Gillian Welch, Imogen Heap, Ozomatli and Garbage and several other artists. Psychic TV did demos that were rejected for the label. Alpert himself released his "Second Wind", "Passion Dance", and "Colours" albums on the label. A Nashville division was launched in 1995. Headed by record producer Garth Fundis, it released albums by Paul Jefferson, Billy Yates, and Bekka & Billy. The label has not released new product since 1999. Commercially viable catalog albums remain available through Interscope Records, a current sister label to A&M. Almone
The Almone (Latin: ''Almo'') is a small river of the Ager Romanus, a few miles south of the city of Rome. Today the river is polluted and is channelled to a sewage treatment plant and no longer reaches its natural confluence with the Tiber. Name The Latin name of the Almone, ''Almo'' (also the name of its corresponding deity), is derived from the Latin word ''almus'', meaning "fertile" or "nourishing," which may derive from its connection to Cybele, also known as ''Magna Mater'' ("Great Mother"). In modern times the stream has been called Marrana della Caffarella. ''Marrana'' (or ''marana'' in Roman dialect) is a term that derives from the name of the ancient ''ager maranus'', the fields that surround the Via Appia, and refers to the drainage channels that flow through the countryside near Rome. "Caffarella" refers to the valley, now a park, that the river runs through. The river has also been known as Acquataccio, a name with two possible derivations. It either refers to the nea ... Almo, Idaho
Almo is a very small unincorporated community in Cassia County, Idaho, United States. It is a short distance away from the City of Rocks National Reserve, a area with granite columns as much as high. The ZIP Code for Almo is 83312. Almo is part of the Burley, Idaho Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Many pioneers followed the Oregon Trail west in the middle of the 19th century, and passed by the future site of Almo. Several of these pioneers wrote letters home describing their encounters with Native Americans. Although these accounts tended to be exaggerated by participants, there is historical evidence of several small incidents that took place from 1860 to 1862. However, Almo's most famous historical event, the Almo Massacre of 1861, did not occur. In 1938, the Sons and Daughters of Idaho Pioneers paid for and erected a marker in remembrance of the massacre, in which a wagon train of nearly 300 pioneers was supposedly surrounded and slaughtered by Indians. However, the ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
