Almo Sounds
Almo Sounds was a record label which was started in 1994 by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss after they sold A&M Records to PolyGram. The intent for the label was to recreate the initial concept of A&M Records as a small, "boutique" label. The label signed artists Gillian Welch, Imogen Heap, Ozomatli and Garbage and several other artists. Psychic TV did demos that were rejected for the label. Alpert himself released his "Second Wind", "Passion Dance", and "Colours" albums on the label. A Nashville division was launched in 1995. Headed by record producer Garth Fundis, it released albums by Paul Jefferson, Billy Yates, and Bekka & Billy. The label has not released new product since 1999. Commercially viable catalog albums remain available through Interscope Records, a current sister label to A&M. They are well known for collaborating with former Men at Work member Colin Hay, and providing the song "Superman (Lazlo Bane song), Superman" as the theme for the television show ''Scrubs (TV series), Scrubs''. Background Formation and early years The band's origin can be traced back to the efforts of Chad Fischer touring with School of Fish in the early 1990s as a drummer. After a disagreement and falling out with a producer and School of Fish eventual split, Fischer went solo and began writing and recording his own material without the benefit of professional mixing or mastering. Taking the name Lazlo Bane Chad Fischer initially signed to Los Angeles-based indie label Fish of Death Records, and released debut single "Buttercup" backed with a cover of Men at Work's 1983 hit "Overkill (Men at Work song), Overkill". 11 Transistor
''11 Transistor'' is the debut album by the band Lazlo Bane, which was released on the Almo Sounds label in early 1997. Overview According to Lazlo Bane's frontman Chad Fischer most of the record was done on 16 tracks with very few effects with all the songwriting done on an acoustic guitar into a little dictaphone. He also said that the idea was to work with as little as possible and make it sound the best it could, just like old transistor radios. The album was recorded through 1995 and 1996 with the input from various musicians to the songwriting and recording. They include Chad Fischer's fellow School of Fish band members Josh Clayton-Felt and Josh Freese, Wire Train's Kevin Hunter and Anders Rundblad, Lyle Workman of the Bourgeois Tagg and the most notable being Colin Hay who provides guitar and vocals for Lazlo Bane's version of Men at Work's " Overkill". ''11 Transistor'' features all the songs from the band's previous release, '' Short Style'' EP. Release and ...

Revival (Gillian Welch Album)
''Revival'' is the first album by American singer-songwriter Gillian Welch, released on April 9, 1996. ''Revival'' was nominated for the 1997 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. The plant described in the song, "Acony Bell" appears to be ''Shortia galacifolia'', also known as the Oconee bells. Welch later began her own record label under the name Acony. To celebrate the album's 20th anniversary, Welch re-released ''Revival'' as ''Boots No 1: The Official Revival Bootleg'' which included demos, outtakes and alternate versions of the tracks in addition to eight new songs. Reception Mark Deming of Allmusic called it a "superb debut" and wrote, "Welch's debts to artists of the past are obvious and clearly acknowledged, but there's a maturity, intelligence, and keen eye for detail in her songs you wouldn't expect from someone simply trying to ape the Carter Family." Bill Friskics-Warren of '' No Depression'' praised the album as "breathtakingly austere evocations of rural ...

IMegaphone
''I Megaphone'' is the debut studio album by British singer-songwriter Imogen Heap. It was released on 16 June 1998 by Almo Sounds. The album was primarily written by Heap, starting when she was 15 years old, with co-writing from Guy Sigsworth and Fil Eisler. It is an alternative rock record with largely confessional lyricism, addressing themes ranging from adolescent drug use and revenge to perseverance and religion. The album's title is an anagram of "Imogen Heap". The album spawned several singles, including "Getting Scared", which was featured on the soundtrack of the horror film ''I Still Know What You Did Last Summer'', "Shine", "Come Here Boy", and "Oh Me, Oh My". Some critics dismissed the record upon its release as derivative of the work of fellow singer-songwriters such as Tori Amos and Alanis Morissette, while othe ...
