AFL Canada
AFL Canada (formerly the Canadian Australian Football Association, french: Association canadienne de football australien) is the governing body for men's and women's Australian rules football in Canada. AFL Canada was formed on 30 July 2004, when the Canadian Australian Football Association changed its official name. AFL Canada is responsible for co-ordinating three national programs - the Northwind senior men, Northern Lights senior women and the Wolfpack junior men's team. AFL Canada also oversees game development nationally and several competitions and tournaments across the country. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. 2005 Australian Football International Cup
The 2005 Australian Football International Cup was the second time that the Australian Football International Cup tournament, an international Australian rules football competition was held. The event was hosted by both Melbourne and Wangaratta, Australia in 2005. 10 nations participated following the late withdrawal of both Nauru and Denmark and the introduction of Spain. All sides were scheduled to play 4 games, after which the top 4 sides played off in semi-finals for a berth in the Grand Final decider. The Grand Final was between Papua New Guinea and New Zealand. Both sides went through the tournament undefeated. Australian rules football in Canada (commonly known as "Aussie Rules" or simply "footy") is played in seven provinces - Ontario, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. The Ontario league, centred on Toronto is a nine-team league, including sides from cities as far afield as Guelph, Hamilton and Ottawa. In western Canada, there are clubs in Edmonton, Calgary and a six-team league in the Vancouver area. There is also a number of junior and women's clubs across Canada. The 2014 Australian Football International Cup was the fifth edition of the Australian Football International Cup, an international Australian rules football competition run by the Australian Football League. It was contested between Saturday August 9 to Saturday August 23, with games played in Melbourne. All three previous champions (Ireland, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea) participated in the tournament. Men's Tournament There are 18 nations competing in the 2014 Tournament. The 2011 Australian Football International Cup (or IC21) is the fourth edition of the Australian Football International Cup, an international Australian rules football competition run by the Australian Football League. It was contested between 12 and 27 August 2011 by 18 nations, with games played in both Melbourne and Sydney. Whitten Oval (also known as Victoria University Whitten Oval under a naming rights agreement) is a stadium in the inner-western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in Barkly Street, West Footscray. It is the training and administrative headquarters of the Western Bulldogs (formerly the Footscray Football Club), which competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The 2008 Australian Football International Cup was the third time the Australian Football International Cup, an international Australian rules football competition, has been contested. It was scheduled for 2008 (as part of the 150th year celebrations of Australian Football), with 16 nations competing. The tournament was hosted by both Melbourne and Warrnambool in Victoria, Australia between 27 August and 6 September, with a single match additionally played in Geelong. Like previous tournaments, the competition was open to men's teams with strict nationality eligibility rules. The Grand Final was played between New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Trevor Barker Beach Oval
Trevor Barker Beach Oval, currently known under naming rights as the Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval, is an Australian rules football ground in Beach Road, on the border between Hampton and Sandringham, Victoria. Most commonly known as Beach Road Oval throughout its existence, in 1998 the ground was renamed after the late Trevor Barker, who died of cancer in 1996 at the age of 39. Barker had coached the Sandringham Football Club to the 1992 and 1994 premierships. In the late 1920s, the Sandringham council had been seeking to establish a senior football club in the district to join the Victorian Football Association, and providing a fenced venue to which admission could be charged was a requirement of the Association.
