Petrolina AEK Larnaca B.C. (in Greek language, Greek: ΑΕΚ Λάρνακας), is a Cyprus, Cypriot professional basketball club based in Larnaca, Cyprus. The club competes in the Cyprus Basketball Division A, Cypriot Basketball League. The president of the team is Vasilis Sellas and the current head coach is Nikolas Papadopoulos. History AEK Larnaca B.C. was formed in 1994 after a merger of two Larnaca clubs: EPA Larnaca and Pezoporikos. The team has many participations in the Cyprus Basketball Division A but had also relegated to the second division. Before the merger of the two teams, Pezoporikos won the Cyprus Basketball Division 1, championship four times (1973, 1991, 1992, 1994). As AEK the team has won the two titles of the second division. In 2013, the team achieved its first Championship as AEK, after beating APOEL B.C., APOEL in the finals by 3–1. Cyprus Basketball Division A
The Cypriot Basketball Division A is currently the top-tier level men's professional basketball competition of the Cypriot basketball league system. It is run and governed by the Cyprus Basketball Federation. Format At present, six clubs compete in the league. Since the 2016–17 season, the six teams play each other four times during the regular season, with the top 4 teams reaching the play-off semi-finals stage. One team (the last one) at the end of the season is relegated to the second division, whilst one team from the second division is promoted. The play-off semi-finals and the championship winner will be decided after three wins. The championship winner, along with the winners of the Cypriot Cup, will qualify to compete in the next season's FIBA's European-wide continental competitions. The 2016–17 Cyprus Basketball Division A was the 50th season of the Cyprus Basketball Division A, the top-tier level men's professional basketball league on Cyprus. The season started on 29 October 2016, and ended in May 2017. AEK Larnaca was the defending champion, and lost the title to Keravnos in the finals. FIBA Europe Cup
The FIBA Europe Cup (FEC) is an annual professional club basketball competition organised by FIBA for eligible European clubs. It is FIBA's European-wide second level. Clubs mainly qualify for the competition based on their performance in national leagues and cup competitions, although this is not the sole deciding factor. The league was founded in 2015 as a replacement of the FIBA EuroChallenge. History On June 30, 2015, FIBA announced it would start a new league to compete with Euroleague Basketball's EuroCup. The new competition, which replaced EuroChallenge, was supposed to be open for up to 100 teams to enter. 2018–19 Basketball Champions League
The 2018–19 Basketball Champions League was the third season of the Basketball Champions League (BCL), a European-wide professional basketball competition for clubs, that was launched by FIBA. The competition began in September 2018, with the qualifying rounds, and concluded in May 2019. It featured 19 domestic champions including two from France and Italy. The Final Four was held in the Sportpaleis in Antwerp on 3 and 5 May 2019. Virtus Bologna won its first BCL championship. As such, the team qualified for the 2020 FIBA Intercontinental Cup.
