Mediawan Thematics (formerly known as AB Groupe) is a French business group in the field of broadcasting. It was founded in 1977 by Jean-Luc Azoulay and Claude Berda as a music production company, and in 1987 went into the world of television. On October 11, 2018, AB Groupe was rebranded to Mediawan Thematics after the purchase by Mediawan in 2017. Encyclopédia (Stylized ''ENCYCLO'') was a French television channel dedicated to encyclopedic knowledge. History of the channel Encyclopédia was launched in 1996 with the launch of the AB Sat satellite package as a documentary channel dedicated to encyclopedic knowledge, but mostly on science and engineering, notably medicine and modern inventions. After rumors of the sale of the channel by ''AB Groupe'' in early 2007, he finally remained in the fold of the group. Officially named ''Encyclopaedia'', it was most of the time called simply ''Encyclo''. This problem was solved on the occasion of its fifteenth birthday, when its name was shortened. Vidéoclick was a commercial television channel shown in the French Community of Belgium. History of the channel The Youth Channel Television group, which operates the Belgian channels AB3 and AB4, entered negotiations in 2004 with the communications agency (CSA) of the French Community of Belgium to obtain a new broadcasting licence. XXL (French TV)
XXL is a television channel in France that is dedicated to pornography and erotica. Created in March 1996 and transmitted by the AB Sat satellite, it was at the time the first French channel to broadcast pornography every evening. Nowadays, it is available on every cable and satellite distributor as an option channel. XXL starts its programming at 22:30 CET with either an erotic film, or a talk show, sometimes hosted by former pornographic film actresses. Starting at midnight, it broadcasts two pornographic films, of which the second is a repeat broadcast from the previous week. It broadcasts a gay movie every Tuesday and an amateur film every Wednesday. Toute l'Histoire is a French television channel based on historical documentaries. History La Chaîne Histoire was created in April 1996, as part of the launch of the AB Sat satellite package. It started as the French version of The History Channel from the United States which used its logo. After the creation of the channel Histoire by France Télévision and La Sept-ARTE in 1997, AB Groupe renamed the channel Toute l'Histoire in 2000 to avoid confusion with these channels, and also breaking the similarity with the American version. After rumours of the sale of the channel by AB Groupe at the beginning of 2006, it eventually became part of the group of channels exclusively shown on satellite via CanalSat.
