A6 Motorway (Portugal)
The  A 6  is a Portuguese motorway which runs east from :pt: Marateca (Palmela), Marateca (a short distance from Lisbon) to the Portugal–Spain border, near Elvas Municipality, Elvas, where it connects to the Autovía A-5 in Spain. Since 1999 the highway has formed part of the principal road linking Lisbon with Madrid. At its western end the road connects with the A2 motorway (Portugal), A2 approximately 50 km (30 miles) south-east of Lisbon, but while the A2 swings to the south the A6 continues east passing through the Alto Alentejo Subregion, Alto Alentejo via Montemor-o-Novo, Évora and the Estremoz :pt:Mármore de Estremoz, marble quarries. It then continues past Borba (Portugal), Borba and Elvas, the Portuguese part of the road terminating at the crossing of the Caia River which here forms the frontier with Spain. Caia River
The Caia () is a river in the Iberian Peninsula, a tributary to the Guadiana. It is one of the main water courses in the Portalegre District, Portugal. Portugal does not recognise the border between the Caia and Ribeira de Cuncos River deltas, since the beginning of the 1801 occupation of Olivenza by Spain. This territory, though under ''de facto'' Spanish occupation, remains a ''de jure'' part of Portugal, consequently no border is henceforth recognised in this area. Course It has its sources in the Serra de São Mamede and for the lower of its course it forms the international Portugal-Spain border. Finally it joins the Guadiana River southwest of the city of Badajoz. Montemor-o-Novo () is a municipality in the District of Évora in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 17,437, in an area of 1232.97 km2. The city itself had a population of 8,928 in 2001. The present Mayor is Olímpio Manuel Vidigal Galvão, elected in 2021 by the Socialist Party. Elvas () is a Portuguese municipality, former episcopal city and frontier fortress of easternmost central Portugal, located in the district of Portalegre in Alentejo. Estremoz
Estremoz () is a municipality in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 14,318, in an area of 513.80 km². The city Estremoz itself had a population of 7,682 in 2001.
