Batu Gajah (population 133,422) is a municipality in Kinta District, Perak, Malaysia. It is the capital of Kinta District. Etymology The name ''Batu Gajah'' in Malay means "elephant rock", it is presumably derived from two large boulders (''batu'', 'stone') that resembled elephants (''gajah'', 'elephant') found along the Kinta River. Folklore claims that huge elephant figures were made of stones to scare away the elephants that destroyed the villagers' sugar cane crops. Kampar ( Jawi: كمڤر, nicknamed ''Education City'') is the largest town of the eponymous Kampar District, Perak, Malaysia. Tronoh
Teronoh (or Tronoh, Ternoh) ( Jawi: ترونوه; ) is a small tin-mining town in Kinta District, Perak, Malaysia. The tin-mining industry boom during the early 20th century saw Tronoh, a town believed to be old, grow from a small village into a major town. The mines in the area included Teronoh South Ltd., Tronoh Extended Ltd., Chung Thye Phin's Phin Tak Mine (also known as the Phin Tak Kongsi) and Chia Tek's Lee Yeoh Mine, all of which were acquired by Foo Choo Choon's Tronoh Mines Ltd. between 1912 and 1921. A railway line linking the town and Ipoh was completed in 1909 and used to transport tin ore. The tracks were dismantled by the Japanese during World War II and were never rebuilt. North–South Expressway Northern Route
The North–South Expressway Northern Route is an interstate controlled-access highway running parallel to the northwestern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The expressway forms the north section of the North–South Expressway, passing through the northwestern states of Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor. The expressway begins at the Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint in Kedah where the Malaysia–Thailand border lies, and ends at Bukit Lanjan in Selangor where the expressway interchanges with the New Klang Valley Expressway. Kellie's Castle
Kellie's Castle (sometimes also called Kellie's Folly) is a castle located in Batu Gajah, Kinta District, Perak, Malaysia. The unfinished, ruined mansion, was built by a Scottish planter named William Kellie-Smith. According to differing accounts, it was either a gift for his wife or a home for his son. Kellie's Castle is situated beside the Raya River (Sungai Raya), which is a small creek to the Kinta River. Background William Kellie-Smith (1870—1926) was born in 1870 in Kellas, Moray Firth, Scotland. In 1890, at the age of 20, he arrived in Malaya as a civil engineer. Tanjung Tualang is a mukim in Kinta District, Perak, Malaysia. History It was originally one of the major tin-mining towns in Malaysia around early 1900s. Tanjung Tualang obtained its name from a type of tree called tualang and later a major tin mining company its namesake Toh Allang Chinese Tin Ltd.
