Aboobucker Mohamed Abdul Azeez ( ta, ஏ. எம். ஏ. அஸீஸ்; 4 October 1911 – 24 November 1973) was a Ceylonese civil servant, educator, social worker and member of the Senate of Ceylon. Early life and family Azeez was born on 4 October 1911 in Vannarpannai in northern Ceylon. He was the son of S. M. Aboobucker, a lawyer, member of Jaffna Urban Council and president of the All Ceylon Muslim League. Azeez's paternal uncle Asena Lebbe Alim Pulavar was a Tamil scholar, poet and expert in Arabic-Tamil. Azeez was educated at Allapichai Quran Madrasa in Vannarpannai (1916), Mohammadiya Mixed Tamil School in Vannarpannai (1917–20), R. K. M. Vaitheeswara Vidyalayam (1921-23) and Jaffna Hindu College (1923–28). After school he spent a year at Saint Joseph's College, Colombo (1928–29) before joining the Ceylon University College in 1929, graduating in 1933 with B.A. degree in history. Senator
A senate is a deliberative assembly, often the upper house or chamber of a bicameral legislature. Kattankudy
Kattankudy ( ta, காத்தான்குடி, si, කාත්තාන්කුඩි; also transliterated as "Kathankudy") is a township near the city of Batticaloa on the eastern coast of Sri Lanka. The town is predominantly populated by Muslims. Most of the people are engaged in business, industries and fisheries. The division of Kattankudy occupies the central part of the district. Eastern Province, Sri Lanka
The Eastern Province ( ta, கிழக்கு மாகாணம் ''Kiḻakku Mākāṇam''; si, නැගෙනහිර පළාත ''Næ̆gĕnahira Paḷāta'') is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka, the first level administrative division of the country. Kalmunai
Kalmunai ( ta, கல்முனை, translit=Kalmuṉai; si, කල්මුනේ, translit=Kalmunē) is a major city in Ampara District. It is the largest city of Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. It had a total population of 106,780 as of 2011. It is one of the few Muslim-majority municipalities in the country. When Muslims in Colombo were expelled by Portuguese in the 17th century, they fled to Kandy and sought refuge with King Rajasinha II, who resettled these refugees in Kalmunai (8,000 refugees) and Kattankudy (4,000). Kalmunai was the site of the royal farm, as a result of this settlement, it became a Muslim-majority area. Kachcheri
A kachcheri or district secretariat is the principal government department that administrates a district in Sri Lanka. Each of the 25 districts has a kachcheri. The main tasks of the District Secretariat involve coordinating communications and activities of the central government and Divisional Secretariats. The District Secretariat is also responsible for implementing and monitoring development projects at the district level and assisting lower-level subdivisions in their activities, as well as revenue collection and coordination of elections in the district. Matale ( Sinhala: මාතලේ, ta, மாத்தளை, translit=Māttaḷai) is the administrative capital city of the Matale District. It is the most urbanised and populated centre in the district. A Government Agent (GA) or a District Secretary is a Sri Lankan civil servant of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service appointed by the central government to govern a certain district of the country.
