A. K. Montgomery
A. K. Montgomery (November 2, 1903 – April 21, 1987) was a New Mexico lawyer and politician who founded a prominent law firm in the state and served in the New Mexico Senate."Montgomery, A.K.", ''The Santa Fe New Mexican'' (April 24, 1987), p. A-8. Born in Emory, Texas, Montgomery moved to New Mexico after World War I. He received a law degree from Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee, in 1927, and gained admission to the bar in New Mexico in 1931. With J.O. Seth as his law partner, Montgomery founded the prominent Santa Fe law firm of Seth & Montgomery in 1937. Montgomery was elected to represent Santa Fe County in the New Mexico Senate from 1937 to 1941, and was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 1942, losing to James B. Jones. The New Mexico Senate ( es, Senado de Nuevo México) is the upper house of the New Mexico State Legislature. Emory, Texas
Emory is a city in Rains County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,239 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Rains County, Texas, Rains County. Previously known as Springville, the city and county are named after Emory Rains who was a legislator from the area. Rains was the author of the Homestead Law of Texas which was later used as a model for the protection of homesteads throughout the United States. Special legislation passed to create Rains County called for the citizens to vote on the location of the county seat and for that selected town to be named Emory. Cumberland University
Cumberland University is a private university in Lebanon, Tennessee. It was founded in 1842. The campus's current historic buildings were constructed between 1892 and 1896. History 1842-1861 The university was founded by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1842 and received its Tennessee state charter in 1843. In 1847 Cumberland Presbyterian church leaders added a law school, the first in Tennessee and the first west of the Appalachian Mountains, and in 1854 a school of theology was begun.
