9Life is an Australian free-to-air digital television multichannel owned by Nine Entertainment. The channel airs mostly foreign lifestyle and reality programs, with the channel having a licensing agreement with Discovery Inc. (previously Scripps Networks Interactive) for the distribution of many formats. History The channel was first announced on 28 October 2015, and began broadcasting on 26 November 2015 in metropolitan areas on channel 94. 9Life replaced the main broadcast of datacasting channel Extra, which was moved to channel 95 to replace its timeshift channel Extra 2. 9Life began being included in the official OzTAM ratings on 1 December 2015, where it recorded a 2.3% primetime share, nearly double that of sister channel 9Gem, which has been the biggest channel launch since 9Go! in 2009. Extra is an Australian free-to-air television channel launched on 26 March 2012. It broadcasts mainly infomercials, religion, community, educational, multi-cultural programming as well as stories taken from Nine Network programs including ''A Current Affair'', '' Getaway'', ''Today'' and ''Today Extra''. History On the Nine Network, the Extra brand was first used in Brisbane on a television news program, that was axed in 2009. MTN is a television station licensed to serve Griffith and the surrounding Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (M.I.A.). The station is owned and operated by WIN Corporation as a Seven Network affiliate. As WIN is the sole commercial television broadcaster in the area, they also supply the stations AMN, a Nine Network affiliate, and the supplementary station MDN, a Network 10 affiliate. This twinstick operation was permitted due to the broadcasting authorities considering Griffith and the M.I.A. too small for three television companies, but large enough for a single company running two stations. The channel provides general entertainment and movie programming, from which the original name "GEM" is derived. TVT is Tasmania's first television station, delivering its first official broadcast on 23 May 1960. The callsign stands for "TeleVision Tasmania". Unlike the commercial stations in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, and later Perth, TVT held a monopoly in the Hobart market for many years (not unlike CTC (TV station), CTC in Canberra and NTD (Australian TV station), NTD in Darwin). Initially it broadcast from the Mount Wellington, Tasmania, Mount Wellington transmitter on VHF channel 6, to all of Hobart. 9Rush is an Australian free-to-air digital television multichannel, launched by the Nine Network on 5 April 2020. The channel is a joint venture with Warner Bros. Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific Pte. Ltd (which also supplies its programming) and is broadcast on Channel 96 across Nine's metropolitan markets. The target audience are males between the ages of 25 to 54. In March 2022, Discovery, Inc. launched the similarly-named Rush channel in New Zealand, which shares some programming and common ownership with 9Rush.
