is a Japanese manga series. It is written and illustrated by Leiji Matsumoto, later adapted into a number of anime films and television series. It is set in a spacefaring, high-tech future in which humans have learned how to transfer their minds and emotions with perfect fidelity into mechanical bodies, thus achieving practical immortality. 999 are an English punk rock band, formed in London in December 1976. From the period of 1976 to 1985, the line-up of 999 consisted of Nick Cash (vocals, guitar), Guy Days (lead guitar), Jon Watson (bass guitar) and Pablo LaBritain (drums). LaBritain was temporarily replaced in 1980 by drummer Paul Edward aka 'Ed Case' while he recovered from a motor accident. The 999 phone charging myth is an urban legend that claims that if a mobile phone has low battery then dialling 999 (or any regional emergency telephone number) charges the phone so it has more power. This was confirmed as untrue by several British police forces who publicly cited the dangers of making such calls. Basis The basis for the belief was a feature of BlackBerry phones: if the battery level was too low, the phone automatically locked down phone features and shut down the phone radio for all calls except to emergency services. People discovered that if they dialled 999 then immediately hung up, it would override the shutdown for several minutes so that phone calls could be made.
