96th Sustainment Brigade (United States)
The 96th Sustainment Brigade, is a combat service support formation of the United States Army Reserve. It traces its history to the 96th Infantry Division which served in the Asia-Pacific theater during World War II. Effective 17 September 2008, the unit became the 96th Sustainment Brigade, with its headquarters located at Fort Douglas, Salt Lake City, Utah. Sustainment Brigade
As part of the early 21st century transformation of the United States Army from a division-based structure to a brigade-based army; the division support commands, corps support groups, and area support groups were inactivated and transformed to sustainment brigades (previously called sustainment units of action (SUS or SUA). Mission The sustainment brigade is designed to provide mission command for combat support and combat service support units. It can be adjusted in size to support anywhere from one to ten brigade combat teams (BCTs). The 192nd Infantry Brigade is an inactive infantry brigade of the United States Army. It was first formed as part of the United States Army Reserve's 96th Division. The 191st Infantry Brigade was constituted on 24 June 1921 in the Organized Reserves as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 191st Infantry Brigade, and assigned to the 96th Division. It was organized in December 1921 at Portland, Oregon, and redesignated on 23 March 1925 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 191st Brigade, then redesignated on 24 August 1936 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 191st Infantry Brigade. Guy Carleton (general)
Guy Carleton (September 9, 1857 – January 8, 1946) was a career officer in the United States Army. He attained the rank of major general, and is best known for his World War I command of Camp Wadsworth (near Spartanburg, South Carolina) and the 96th Division. Carleton was an 1881 graduate of the United States Military Academy; assigned to the Cavalry, he served throughout the west during the last of the American Indian Wars. He was a veteran of the Spanish–American War, the Philippine–American War, and the Veracruz Expedition. During World War I, he commanded Camp Zachary Taylor, Kentucky and the 159th Depot Brigade, followed by Camp Wadsworth, South Carolina and the 96th Division, and then Camp Kearny, California and the 16th Division. After the war, Carleton commanded Camp Lewis, Washington and the 166th Depot Brigade. After serving with the Inspector General's Department in San Francisco, Carleton retired in 1921.
