8th Nigeria National Assembly
The 8th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was a bicameral legislature inaugurated on June 9, 2015 and the assembly ran its course until June 9, 2019. Composition The assembly comprises the Senate and the House of Representatives. The National Assembly comprises 469 members elected across the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria. The House of Representative consists of 360 members and the Senate, a total of 109 members from which 59 were elected on the platform of the APC and 49 were elected on the platform of People's Democratic Party following the sudden death of Senator Ahmed Zanna elected on the platform of PDP to represent Borno Central. Only six of the senators were women. Nigerian General Election, 2015
General elections were held in Nigeria on 28 and 29 March 2015, the fifth quadrennial election to be held since the end of military rule in 1999. Voters elected the President and members to the House of Representatives and the Senate. The incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan, sought his second and final term. The elections were first scheduled to be held on 14 February 2015. However, the electoral commission postponed it by six weeks to 28 March, mainly due to the poor distribution of Permanent Voter Cards, and also to curb ongoing Boko Haram insurgency in certain north-eastern states. The government closed its land and sea borders from midnight on 25 March until the end of the polling date. The election was extended to 29 March due to delays and technical problems with the biometric card readers. It was the most expensive election ever to be held on the African continent. Ahmed Zanna
Khalifa Ahmed Zanna (5 January 1955 – 16 May 2015) was a Nigerian politician who was elected Senator for Borno Central, in Borno State, on the 9 April, 2011 national elections at the age of 55. He was elected under the People's Democratic Party (Nigeria) and was re-elected 2015 and died on 16 may, 2015 few days to inauguration. Background Zanna was a successful businessman, and a member of the board of many federal establishments. For example, in 2000 he was in the board of the National Electrical Power Authority (NEPA). Quorum
A quorum is the minimum number of members of a deliberative assembly (a body that uses parliamentary procedure, such as a legislature) necessary to conduct the business of that group. It was built in 1999 at a cost of nearly $35.18 million and the contract was awarded to ITB Nigeria, on February 18, 1996, through the Department of public building, FCDA, Abuja. Binta Masi Garba (born 17 April 1967) is a Nigerian politician, businesswoman and administrator, serving as the Senator of Adamawa North Senatorial District of Adamawa State since 2015.
