7th AACTA Awards
The 7th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (generally known as the AACTA Awards) took place on 6 December 2017. Presented by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), the awards celebrated the best in Australian feature film, television, documentary and short film productions of 2017. A record number of thirty five feature films were submitted for competition. The main ceremony was televised in Australia by the Seven Network. The Star Sydney (formerly Star City Casino and prior to that, Sydney Harbour Casino) in Pyrmont, New South Wales, Pyrmont, Sydney, is the second largest casino in Australia after Melbourne's Crown Melbourne, Crown Casino. Osamah Sami
Osamah Sami (born 10 March 1983 in Qom, Iran) is an Australian stage and screen actor, writer, spoken-word artist, and stand-up comedian of Iraqi origin. His critically acclaimed book ''Good Muslim Boy'', was the winner of the 2016 NSW Premier's Literary Award. It was also Highly Commended at the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards that same year. Sami also co wrote and starred in ''Ali's Wedding'', which earned him an Australian Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay as well as a nomination for Best Lead Actor. Andrew John Knight (born 29 September 1953) is an Australian TV writer and producer of film and television, known for his work on '' ''Rake'''', ''Jack Irish'', ''Hacksaw Ridge'', ''Ali's Wedding'' and ''The Water Diviner''. AACTA Award For Best Original Screenplay
The AACTA Award for Best Original Screenplay is an award presented by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), for an Australian screenplay "written directly and originally for the screen". Prior to the establishment of the Academy in 2011, the award was presented by the Australian Film Institute (AFI) at the annual Australian Film Institute Awards (more commonly known as the AFI Awards). It was first handed out in 1978 when the award for Best Screenplay (which was first presented at the 1974-75 awards) was split into two categories: Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay. The AACTA Award for Best Direction is an award presented by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), a non-profit organisation whose aim is to "identify, award, promote and celebrate Australia's greatest achievements in film and television." David Jowsey
David Jowsey is an Australian film producer, co-founder of Bunya Productions. He is known for producing many films made by Indigenous Australian filmmakers. Bunya Productions' co-owners are Indigenous filmmaker Ivan Sen, and Jowsey's wife Greer Simpkin. Early life and education Jowsey was born in Auckland, New Zealand.
