''6'' is the sixth studio album by the Swedish folk rock band Garmarna. Released in 2016, it was the band's first album after a hiatus of 15 years. Unlike its predecessors, ''6'' is more electronic and focuses on current issues like refugees, borders, hate and prejudices. It also includes tracks written and recorded in cooperation with other Swedish artists, namely Maxida Märak, Thåström and Annika Norlin. Reception The album received mixed international reviews. While the ''Sonic Seducer'' from Germany published a highly positive review praising the band's energy and musical diversity, reviewers from Garmana's home country Sweden were more reluctant. Garmarna
Garmarna is a Swedish folk rock band. Their songs are mainly old Scandinavian ballads. Biography Garmarna was founded in 1990. Stefan Brisland-Ferner, Gotte Ringqvist and Rickard Westman were inspired by old Swedish music, which they had heard in a theatre. They began searching for old tunes and instruments. After two years of playing together, Jens Höglin joined the band on drums. In 1992 the band recorded their first EP. They thought that female vocals would provide a contrast to the dark mood of their music and invited Emma Härdelin, a long-time friend of the band, as the guest vocalist on the EP. She officially joined the band in 1993. The debut EP sold well in Sweden, and helped the band tour in Scandinavia. On the album ''Vittrad'', the band decided to add samples and sequencers to the mix. Maxida Märak
Ida Amanda "Maxida" Märak (born 17 September 1988) is a Swedish-Sámi joik singer, hip hop musician, actress and activist. Märak is a human rights activist with a special interest in the rights of the Sámi people. She has taken part in protests against the establishment of an iron ore mine in Kallak. In 2014, she recorded the album ''Mountain Songs and other Stories'' along with the bluegrass band Downhill Bluegrass band. Also in 2014, she took part in the SVT show ''Sápmi Sessions'' along with Aki and King Fari Band. Emma Härdelin
Emma Härdelin (born 26 September 1975) is a Swedish musician. She is a violinist and lead singer in folk-rock band Garmarna,Dupont, Linn.Tystnaden gav Garmarna ett nytt sound (in Swedish), Helsingborgs Dagblad, November 27, 2017. which she joined in 1993 for their first album, and also lead singer for the folk band Triakel. Härdelin was born into a family of nationally acclaimed musicians as the daughter of Swedish traditional fiddler Thore Härdelin. She grew up in Kluk, Jämtland, and Delsbo, Hälsingland. After attending a Waldorf school and studying Swedish folk singing under Maria Röjås at Malung folkhögskola, she became a member of Garmarna in 1993 and founded Triakel in 1995 together with Kjell-Erik Eriksson of Hoven Droven and Janne Strömstedt. Joakim Thåström
Sven Joakim Eriksson Thåström (born 20 March 1957), better known as Thåström, is a Swedish singer and songwriter, mostly known for the bands Ebba Grön and Imperiet. He has moved between a number of genres, from punk to rock, industrial and autobiographical singer-songwriter music. Life and career Early career and Ebba Grön Thåström grew up on Skebokvarnsvägen in Högdalen, south of Stockholm. He formed his first band "Helt sonika" with Thomas Svanljung, Lars Elffors, Lennart "Elton" Hellgren, Bosse Steinholtz and Lars Bremer.
