51st Infantry Division (South Korea)
The 51st Homeland Defense Infantry Division ( ko, 제51향토보병사단) is a military formation of the Republic of Korea Army. The division is subordinated to the Ground Operations Command (South Korea), Ground Operations Command. It is in charge of local defense and reserve force training in the southwestern part of Gyeonggi. The division founded on 16 August 1982 when it was separated from the 17th Infantry Division. The division headquarters is located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. Infantry is a military specialization which engages in ground combat on foot. Infantry generally consists of light infantry, mountain infantry, motorized infantry & mechanized infantry, airborne infantry, air assault infantry, and marine infantry. Although disused in modern times, heavy infantry also commonly made up the bulk of many historic armies. A division is a large military unit or Formation (military), formation, usually consisting of between 6,000 and 25,000 soldiers. In most armies, a division is composed of several regiments or brigades; in turn, several divisions typically make up a corps. Ground Operations Command (South Korea)
The Ground Operations Command (GOC; ko, 지상작전사령부) is a command of the Republic of Korea Army, based in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. History According Lee Min-hyung for Korea Times, Korean Ministry of National Defense pushed for the establishment of the Ground Operations Command since 1998, with calls to decrease number of soldiers and improve operational efficiency under a single control point. In 2015, the Government announced its intention to establish a command to be in charge of the Army's ground operations by 2018, after delaying the transfer of control of troops in case of war. The Ground Operations Command has been created by combining the army's First and Third Army commands, which defended the eastern and western frontline areas. Hwaseong, Gyeonggi
Hwaseong () is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It has the largest area of farmland of any city or county in Gyeonggi Province. Seoul Subway Line 1 passes through Hwaseong, stopping at Byeongjeom Station. Suin Bundang Line also passes through Hwaseong, stopping at Eocheon Station.
