4th General Hospital (US Army)
The 4th General Hospital was a US Army medical unit during World War II. The unit was drawn mostly from medical personnel from Cleveland, Ohio from University Hospitals and the Medical School of Case Western Reserve University. After formation and assembling in New York (state), New York, a convoy with the 4th General Hospital team on board, left New York on 23 January 1942 with an escort of US destroyers to an undisclosed destination. The medical unit disembarked in Melbourne, Australia on 27 February 1942. The medical unit set up a temporary tent camp in Royal Park, Melbourne. The new Royal Melbourne Hospital building which had been made available under lend-lease reciprocal contributions arrangements was still under construction. On 12 May 1942 the medical unit finally moved into the Royal Melbourne Hospital building, becoming the only time an entire Australian hospital has been occupied by another country. Arthur MacArthur IV (born February 21, 1938) is the only child of General of the Army Douglas MacArthur and Jean MacArthur. He is also the grandson of Lieutenant General Arthur MacArthur Jr. Early life Arthur MacArthur IV's early life was chronicled extensively in the press. His early childhood was spent around the penthouse built for his father atop the Manila Hotel. Arthur's father would play with him every morning before work. After the Japanese invasion of the Philippines, Arthur, his mother and his nanny were forced to relocate from the Manila Hotel as bombs fell nearby. Finschhaven
Finschhafen is a district on the north-east coast of the Morobe province of Papua New Guinea. It is named after the port town of the same name, Finschhafen. The port was discovered (for Europeans) in 1884 by the German researcher Otto Finsch. In 1885 the German colony of German New Guinea created a town on the site and named it after the discoverer (''-hafen = -harbor''). Evangelical Lutheran missionaries, organized by Johann Flierl, settled near the town, establishing a Mission station at Simbang, and later at Sattelberg, approximately away. Malaria was the bane of the town from the start. An epidemic in 1891 caused the colonists to briefly leave and only to return and then leave again ten years later in 1901. Jean Marie MacArthur ( Faircloth; December 28, 1898 – January 22, 2000) was the second wife of U.S. Army General of the Army Douglas MacArthur. Early life and education Born Jean Marie Faircloth in Nashville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Edward C. Faircloth, a banker. Lend-Lease, formally the Lend-Lease Act and introduced as An Act to Promote the Defense of the United States (), was a policy under which the United States supplied the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union and other Allied nations with food, oil, and materiel between 1941 and 1945.
