ZAI Awards
The ZAI Awards (''Hudobný fond'' or HF) are a Slovak music accolade presented by '' Zväz autorov a interprétov populárnej hudby'' (ZAI) to recognize outstanding achievements in the industry for the preceding year in the region. In the early phase, the annual ceremonies were held in association with the local Music Fund (HF) and International Federation of the Phonographic Industry Slovakia (SNS IFPI). For that reason, their follow-up equivalents were frequently renamed; once after the American Gramies (1996–1997). Following a 1997 protest of the U.S. NARAS management against the Czech music awards, also called likewise, the Slovak organization decided to change the adopted name too, renaming then trophies after the Artmedia Music Academy (1998–2000), also established by ZAI. ''SME'' or ''Denník SME'' (in English: ''WE ARE'' Daily) is one of the most widely read mainstream broadsheets in Slovakia. Marián Varga
Marián Varga (29 January 1947 – 9 August 2017) was a Slovak musician, composer and organist. Biography He played the piano from the age of six. He studied piano and composition at the conservatory in Bratislava. He left the conservatory after three years to become a member of the group Prúdy, and contributed to the legendary album '' Zvoňte zvonky''. He left Prúdy as suddenly as he had left conservatory only to establish the first Czechoslovak art rock band Collegium Musicum. The repertoire of Collegium Musicum, comprising mostly instrumental pieces, included reinterpretations of the themes of classics such as Joseph Haydn, Béla Bartók and Igor Stravinsky, complemented by original compositions. Already at this stage his work bore signs of postmodernism (Eufónia of the album Konvergencie), which later became the basic principle of his work. Radim Hladík
Radim Hladík (13 December 1946 – 4 December 2016) was a Czech guitarist, composer, and producer known primarily for his trademark rock and jazz-fusion electric sound, although his early style was more blues-oriented, and Hladík also played acoustic folk. Since the second half of the 1960s, he has been considered one of the best and most influential Czech guitarists, and has won awards in the "beat rock" category. Learning the piano as a child, Hladík later studied classical guitar at the Prague Conservatory for two years. At the age of 15 he began playing guitar in the rock group Komety, before joining The Matadors with his friend Vladimír Mišík. In 1968 Hladík and Mišík established the Blue Effect, which initially played more mainstream, blues-influenced "Beat music, Beat" music, quickly gaining recognition as a dominant force on the rhythm-and-blues scene in Czechoslovakia. Pavol Hammel
Pavol Hammel (born 7 December 1948, in Bratislava) is a Slovakia, Slovak musician, singer and producer. Pavol Hammel was born to a family of musicians. His father played violin in the Slovak National Theatre, and influenced Pavol to become a promising violin player too. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, Comenius University in Bratislava in 1976. He gained fame initially in the group Prúdy, but has since established a successful solo career. He is married and has two daughters. Jozef Ráž
Jozef "Jožo" Ráž (born 24 October 1954) is a Slovak singer–songwriter and bassist from Bratislava known mainly for his work with the group Elán. Career Jožo Ráž founded the pop-rock band Elán in 1968 together with his school classmates Vašo Patejdl, Juraj Farkaš, and Zdeno Baláž. They became one of the most popular Czechoslovak bands during the 1980s, releasing ten successful albums between 1981 and 1991. He is also an occasional actor: in 1989, he played himself in the fictionalized film about the band Elán, ''Rabaka''. Personal life Ráž graduated from the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava. In the summer of 1999, while riding his motorcycle in Bratislava's city center, Ráž was hit by a car, causing him a serious head injury as well as a broken nose, wrist, and right leg. Elán (band)
Elán is a Slovak pop rock band founded in 1968 by elementary school classmates Jožo Ráž, Vašo Patejdl, Juraj Farkaš, and Zdeno Baláž. They became one of the most popular Czechoslovak bands during the 1980s, releasing ten successful albums between 1981 and 1991. In 1993, the group represented Slovakia in the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest but having finished in fourth place, failed to qualify for the finals in Ireland. Elán performed at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, Czech Republic, as part of the championship's entertainment festivities. The band has toured internationally throughout their career. Tublatanka is a Slovakia, Slovak rock band formed in the autumn of 1982 in Bratislava, Slovakia, best known for the hits "Pravda víťazí" (The Truth Prevails) and "Dnes" (Today). The band's classic lineup consisted of Maťo Ďurinda (also known as Martin Durinda), Palo Horváth, and Juraj "Ďuro" Černý from 1982 to 1992. In 1992, Palo exited the band, leaving Maťo and Ďuro to record their 1993 album with Maťo composing guitar and bass melodies. Ďuro left the band in 1995 due to complications with drugs.
