ZAI Awards
The ZAI Awards (''Hudobný fond'' or HF) are a Slovakia, Slovak music accolade presented by ''Zväz autorov a interprétov populárnej hudby'' (ZAI) to recognize outstanding achievements in the music industry, industry for the preceding year in the region. In the early phase, the annual ceremonies were held in association with the local Music Fund (HF) and International Federation of the Phonographic Industry Slovakia (SNS IFPI). For that reason, their follow-up equivalents were frequently renamed; once after the American Grammy Awards, Gramies (1996–1997). Following a 1997 protest of the U.S. National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, NARAS management against the Czech music awards, also called likewise, the Slovak organization decided to change the adopted name too, renaming then trophies after the Artmedia Music Academy (1998–2000), also established by ZAI. Filip Renč
Filip Renč (born 17 August 1965) is a Czech film director, screenwriter, and actor. Biograph Filip Renč was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Since his childhood, he already proved his enthusiasm for movies and drama. As a young boy he appeared in several movies, including ''Julek'' (1980) and ''Leve kridlo'' (1983). During his studies at FAMU (Film and TV School of The Academy of Performing Arts in Prague) he created documentaries (Zapadákov, Srdíčko) for which he was awarded at the International film schools festival in 1987 and 1988. His debut movie ''Requiem for a Maiden'' was also a great success at the Czechoslovakian film festival FORUM in Bratislava. Richard Müller (singer)
Richard Müller (born 6 September 1961) is a Slovak singer, songwriter, and occasional actor. He is one of the most successful singers in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where he has sold more than one million records. Biography He started as a music journalist. In the beginning of the 1980s, while studying the theory of drama and screenplay at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU), he started writing for the daily paper and the only specialized periodical at the time, ''Popular'', and, later, for ''Gramorevue''. As a journalist, in his own words, he could get close to the musicians he admired easier. His first song, ''Radio'', was recorded with the Burčiak Pavla Daněka band. The track was very successful in the music chart 5xp, which encouraged Müller to start a band with Martin Karvaš, it was called Banket. Tublatanka
Tublatanka is a Slovak rock band formed in the autumn of 1982 in Bratislava, Slovakia, best known for the hits "Pravda víťazí" (The Truth Prevails) and "Dnes" (Today). The band's classic lineup consisted of Maťo Ďurinda (also known as Martin Durinda), Palo Horváth, and Juraj "Ďuro" Černý from 1982 to 1992. In 1992, Palo exited the band, leaving Maťo and Ďuro to record their 1993 album with Maťo composing guitar and bass melodies. Ďuro left the band in 1995 due to complications with drugs. Currently, the band consists of Maťo Ďurinda, Juraj Topor, and Peter Schlosser. Elán (band)
Elán is a Slovak pop rock band founded in 1968 by elementary school classmates Jožo Ráž, Vašo Patejdl, Juraj Farkaš, and Zdeno Baláž. They became one of the most popular Czechoslovak bands during the 1980s, releasing ten successful albums between 1981 and 1991. In 1993, the group represented Slovakia in the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest but having finished in fourth place, failed to qualify for the finals in Ireland. Elán performed at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, Czech Republic, as part of the championship's entertainment festivities. Andrej Šeban
Andrej Šeban (born 23 June 1962), is a Slovak jazz fusion musician, composer, producer, studio guitarist, and instructor. He is also an occasional actor. Life and career Šeban was born in Bratislava in 1962. As a child, he took piano lessons and beginning in 1977, he took classical guitar lessons. The same year, he joined the band Nervy (where Martin Ďurinda sang and played guitar). From 1978 to 1979, he was a member of the jazz rock band Miting and in the early 1980s, he played with hard rock band Demikát. He joined the music faculty at Comenius University in 1986 and studied vocal performance. Pavol Habera
Pavol Habera (born Pavel Habera, 12 April 1962, in Brezno, Czechoslovakia), better known as Paľo Habera, is a Slovak singer, musician, composer, and musical actor. He gained popularity in the 1980s as the leader of the rock band TEAM and has since been known through his successful solo career, and most recently as a judge on the television shows '' SuperStar Search Slovakia'' and ''SuperStar'', based on the British music competition television series ''Pop Idol''. Marián Varga
Marián Varga (29 January 1947 – 9 August 2017) was a Slovak musician, composer and organist. Biography He played the piano from the age of six. He studied piano and composition at the conservatory in Bratislava. He left the conservatory after three years to become a member of the group Prúdy, and contributed to the legendary album '' Zvoňte zvonky''. He left Prúdy as suddenly as he had left conservatory only to establish the first Czechoslovak art rock band Collegium Musicum. The repertoire of Collegium Musicum, comprising mostly instrumental pieces, included reinterpretations of the themes of classics such as Joseph Haydn, Béla Bartók and Igor Stravinsky, complemented by original compositions.
