4 Artillery Brigade
4 Artillery Brigade (pronounced as ''Four Artillery Brigade'') and colloquially known as "Gunners", is the artillery arm of the Namibian Army based at Otjiwarongo. It functions as the Army's artillery Formation and hosts all the Artillery regiments of the Army. History The brigade was formed in 1999. It is the controlling entity of all artillery units in the Army. Shortly after its formation the Brigade received G2 towed artillery from South Africa. The prefix "4" is taken from 4 May 1978, the date on which the SADF attacked a SWAPO refugee camp in Cassinga. The 152 mm howitzer-gun M1937 (ML-20) (russian: 152-мм гаубица-пушка обр. 1937 г. (МЛ-20)), is a Soviet heavy gun-howitzer. The gun was developed by the design bureau of the plant no 172, headed by F. F. Petrov, as a deep upgrade of the 152-mm gun M1910/34, in turn based on the 152-mm siege gun M1910, a pre-World War I design by Schneider. It was in production from 1937 to 1946. The ML-20 saw action in World War II, mainly as a corps / army level artillery piece of the Soviet Army. Captured guns were employed by Wehrmacht and the Finnish Army. Joseph Kakoto
Brigadier General Joseph Hatutale Kakoto is a retired Namibian military officer who served as General Officer Commanding of the 4 Artillery Brigade. He retired on retired in January 2018. Career Bridadier General Kakoto went into exile joined the Peoples Liberation Army of Namibia in 1974 and served in various capacities. In 1990 he was a pioneer of the Namibian Defence Force. Rising through the ranks in the 2010s he was appointed as commandant of the Military School and in 2011 he was appointed as Chief of Staff Logistics at Defence Headquarters. After which he was transferred back to the Army and appointed as General Officer Commanding 4 artillery Brigade, he served in that capacity until his retirement in January 2018. Major General Nestor Shali Shalauda is a retired Namibian military officer who served as commander of the Namibian Army (NA). He was appointed the commander of the Namibian Army in July 2017 until his retirement on 31 July 2019. Ondangwa
Ondangwa (earlier spelling ''Ondangua'') is a town in the Oshana Region of northern Namibia, bordering the Oshikoto Region. The PHL-81 is a truck-mounted self-propelled 122 mm multiple rocket launcher (SPMRL) produced by the People's Republic of China for the People's Liberation Army Ground Force. The PHL-81 is being replaced by the modernised version PHL-11. Design and development It is a variant of the Soviet BM-21 Grad.
