47th United States Congress
The 47th United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, consisting of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, D.C. from March 4, 1881, to March 4, 1883, during the six months of Presidency of James A. Garfield, James Garfield's presidency, and the first year and a half of Presidency of Chester A. Arthur, Chester Arthur's presidency. The apportionment of seats in this United States House of Representatives, House of Representatives was based on the 1870 United States census. Chester is a cathedral city in Cheshire, England, on the River Dee, Wales, River Dee, close to the England–Wales border. With a built-up area population of 92,760 in 2021, it is the most populous settlement in the borough of Cheshire West and Chester. Angus Cameron (July 4, 1824March 30, 1897) was an American lawyer, banker, and Republican politician from La Crosse, Wisconsin. He served ten years as a United States Senator, representing Wisconsin from 1875 to 1885. He earlier served as the 18th speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly and served four years in the Wisconsin Senate representing La Crosse County. Early life and career Angus Cameron was born in the town of Caledonia, New York, on July 4, 1824. He attended Temple Hill Academy in Geneseo, New York, and then the Genesee Wesleyan Seminary in Lima, New York, which is now Syracuse University. William Windom (politician)
William Windom (May 10, 1827January 29, 1891) was an American politician from Minnesota. He served as U.S. Representative from 1859 to 1869, and as U.S. Senator from 1870 to January 1871, from March 1871 to March 1881, and from November 1881 to 1883. He also served two non-consecutive times as Secretary of the Treasury from March to November 1881, and from 1889 to 1891, under three Presidents. He was a Republican.
