3rd Sarasaviya Awards ...
The 3rd Sarasaviya Awards festival (Sinhala: 3වැනි සරසවිය සම්මාන උලෙළ), presented by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, was held to honor the best films of 1965 Sinhala cinema on August 20, 1966, at the Colombo Race Course, Sri Lanka. For the first time in Sri Lankan award history, Bollywood celebrities Hindi actresses Nutan and Shashikala, then editors of Filmfare magazine B. J. K. Karanjia and Hindi actor Sunil Dutt were invited to participate as the chief guests at the awards night. The film ''Saaravita'' won the most awards with nine including Best Film. Colombo Racecourse
Colombo Racecourse ( si, කොළඹ තුරඟ තරඟ පිටිය) is a historical harness racing course in the Cinnamon Gardens, Colombo. During the Second World War, it was used as a temporary airfield. In 2012, it was redeveloped as the Colombo Racecourse Sports Complex to become the first International Rugby Union ground in Sri Lanka to host all the national rugby union side's home matches. In 2014, the ground went through a major renovation, which included installation of floodlights and the conversion of a substantial part of the grandstand into a shopping and dining complex. The ground hosted the 2022 SAFF U-17 Championship. Dommie Jayawardena
Dommie Jayawardena, (25 June 1927 – 28 December 1979 as :si:ඩොමී ජයවර්ධන, ඩොමී ජයවර්ධන in Sinhala language, Sinhala) was a Sri Lankan actor and singer. He achieved fame playing villainous roles including Bollywood film ''Praan''. Personal life Dommie Jayawardena was born on 25 June 1927 in Ambalangoda. He died on December 28, 1979, at the age of 52. Dommie was married to Nona Subeida and the couple has two sons - Roy and Nihal, both were actors. Subeida has acted in two films - Sujatha and Rekava. Elder son Nihal was born on 4 March 1949. Nihal acted in about 27 films. He died on 25 August 2004. Youngest son Roy was born on 1957 and died on 24 May 2001. He has acted in 16 films. Jeevarani Kurukulasuriya (born 2 December 1941 as ජීවරාණි කුරුකුලසූරිය) inhala, is an actress in Sri Lankan cinema, theater and television. One of the most popular actresses in early Sinhala cinema, she played the main role in Sri Lanka's first Sinhala color film ''Ranmuthu Duwa''. Personal life Jeevarani was born on 2 December 1941 in Aluthgama, Kalutara as the eldest of the family. Her father was Kurukulasuriyage Venus Anthony Fernando. Kala Keerthi Sembuge Gamini Shelton Fonseka () (21 March 1936 - 30 September 2004 as ගාමිණී ෆොන්සේකා), was a Sri Lankan film actor, film director and politician. Often considered as the Greatest Actor in the Sinhala Cinema, Fonseka dominated the cinema in 1960s and 1970s to bagged Best Actor award in multiple times.
