37th Gawad Urian Awards
The 37th Gawad Urian Awards or ''Ika-37 na Gawad Urian'' were held on June 17, 2014, at the Dolphy Theater in Quezon City. They honored the best Filipino films for the year 2013. Nominations were announced on April 29, 2014, at a press conference. Rody Vera received triple nominations in the Best Screenplay category. Angel Aquino, Adjani Arumpac and Corinne de San Jose received double nominations in Best Supporting Actress, Best Documentary and Best Sound respectively. On the other hand, Armando Lao received the most number of nominations with four. '' Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan'' dominated the ceremony which received 4 awards, including Best Film. The ''Natatanging Gawad Urian'' was supposed to be given to Mike de Leon but he declined to receive the award. This is only the second time in which this special award was not given, the first being in 1989. Pancho Magalona
Enrique Gayoso Magalona Jr. (January 22, 1922 – April 7, 1998), popularly known as Pancho Magalona, was a Filipino actor from the 1940s to the 1970s. Early life Born Enrique Gayoso Magalona Jr. in Bacolod, Negros Occidental, he was the son of Enrique B. Magalona Sr., who was then a municipal president of Saravia (now renamed in his honor) and a future Senator. Personal life Magalona and his wife Tita Duran, appeared in numerous Sampaguita Pictures movies. The couple was the most popular movie love team during the late 1940s and 1950s. Erik Matti (born December 21, 1970) is a Filipino filmmaker. He is known for directing '' On the Job'' (2013), ''Honor Thy Father'' (2015), ''Seklusyon'' (2016), ''BuyBust'' (2018), and '' On the Job: The Missing 8'' (2021). Matti co-founded the production company Reality Entertainment with Dondon Monteverde, son of film producer Lily Monteverde. Matti and Monteverde also co-founded the streaming service Upstream. Maurice Ruiz de Luzuriaga Gallaga (August 25, 1943 – May 7, 2020), better known as Peque Gallaga, was a multi-awarded Filipino people, Filipino film-maker. His most significant achievement in film was ''Oro, Plata, Mata'', which he directed after winning a scriptwriting contest sponsored by the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines. ''Transit'' is a 2013 Filipino independent drama film written and directed by Hannah Espia. The film follows a story about a single father who is forced to hide his children from immigration police in Israel after the Israeli government decides to deport children of immigrant workers. It is Espia's full-length debut film. It was mostly shot in Israel. The film competed under the New Breed section of Cinemalaya 2013. The film won Best Film, directing, acting and other technical awards. Espia said that the inspiration to do the film came after talking to an OFW who was bringing home his child from Israel. In 2009, the Israeli government enacted a law that deports the children of migrant workers unless they fulfill a certain criterion.
