Lav Diaz
Lavrente Indico Anciro Diaz (born December 30, 1958) is a Filipino independent filmmaker and former film critic. Frequently known as one of the key members of the slow cinema movement, having made several of the longest narrative films on record. Diaz is one of the most critically acclaimed contemporary Filipino filmmakers. Diaz started making films in the late 1990s. His first international exposure was at the Hong Kong International Film Festival in 1999 with his directorial debut Serafin Geronimo: Kriminal ng Baryo Concepcion (The Criminal of Barrio Concepcion). The Hong Kong event went on to present his next two features: Naked Under the Moon in 2000 and Batang West Side in 2001. European film festivals only caught on with ''Norte, the End of History'' (2013), which was entered into the Un Certain Regard section of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and received much critical praise. Datu Paglas, officially the Municipality of Datu Paglas ( Maguindanaon: ''Ingud nu Datu Paglas''; Iranun: ''Inged a Datu Paglas''; tl, Bayan ng Datu Paglas), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Maguindanao del Sur, Philippines. 66th Berlin International Film Festival
The 66th Berlin International Film Festival was held from 11 to 21 February 2016, with American actress Meryl Streep as the President of the Jury. The Honorary Golden Bear for lifetime achievement was presented to German cinematographer Michael Ballhaus. ''Hail, Caesar!'', directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, was selected to open the festival. Cinemanila International Film Festival
The Cinemanila International Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Manila, Philippines. It was founded by Filipino filmmaker Amable "Tikoy" Aguiluz in 1999. The focus of the festival is on the cinema of the Philippines as well as Southeast Asian cinema. The Cinemanila icon is the ''bulol'', a deity whose presence ensures good harvest. The Cinemanila International Film Festival invokes the bulol as a blessing towards the Filipino film industry in general – as a prayer towards good harvest, a plentiful bounty of excellent Filipino films. ''Melancholia'' is a 2008 Philippine black and white slow drama film shot, edited, composed, written, produced and directed by Lav Diaz. It won the Horizons prize (Best Picture, Orizzonti) at the 65th Venice International Film Festival. Plot The film is divided into three parts, plus an epilogue, but these parts are not explicitly defined within the movie. Part 1 The film begins with a young woman getting dressed in prostitutes clothing and walking up a long road from her apartment. She crosses paths with a nun asking for alms and gives her some money. Gawad Urian Awards
The Gawad Urian Awards are annual film awards in the Philippines held since 1977. It is given by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (MPP, "the Filipino Film Critics") and is currently regarded as the counterpart of the United States' New York Film Critics Circle. Establishment The MPP was formed by a host of scholars, film writers and other award-winning writers on May 1, 1976 as a critics' voice to rival the then-only award-giving body in the Philippines, which is its Oscars', the FAMAS Awards. Three years earlier, what would be the members of the MPP were included in the judges' roster of the FAMAS after a shocking 1972 Best Actress tie materialized between major star Boots Anson-Roa and then-rising star Vilma Santos.
