322 Squadron RNLAF
The No. 322 Squadron, being the oldest operational squadron of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, was founded at RAF Woodvale on 12 June 1943 as No. 322 (Dutch) Squadron with Dutch personnel under Royal Air Force control. At the end of the war ''322e Jachtvliegtuig Afdeling'' of the Royal Netherlands Army was formed from the RAF squadron. When it was equipped with the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon the squadron performed as the other Dutch F-16 Squadrons a dual 'swing role' task: ground support and, stationed on Leeuwarden Air Base, interceptor duties, especially above the North Sea. The squadron is currently equipped with the A-model of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, its final F-16s having been withdrawn on July 1, 2021. 1977 Dutch Train Hostage Crisis
On 23 May 1977, a train was hijacked near the village of De Punt, Netherlands. At around 09:00 that morning, nine armed Moluccan nationalists pulled the emergency brake and took over 50 people hostage. The hijacking lasted 20 days and ended with a raid by Dutch counter-terrorist special forces, during which two hostages and six hijackers were killed. The same day as the train hijacking, four other South Moluccans took over a hundred hostages at an elementary school in Bovensmilde, around 20 km (12 mi) away. The train hijacking was only the second such hijacking to take place in the Netherlands; the other, a 1975 train hijacking in Wijster, had also been perpetrated by Moluccans. Operation Deny Flight was a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) operation that began on 12 April 1993 as the enforcement of a United Nations (UN) no-fly zone over Bosnia and Herzegovina. The United Nations and NATO later expanded the mission of the operation to include providing close air support for UN troops in Bosnia and carrying out coercive air strikes against targets in Bosnia. Twelve NATO members contributed forces to the operation and, by its end on 20 December 1995, NATO pilots had flown 100,420 sorties. Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) is state of readiness and '' modus operandi'' of air defence maintained at all hours of the day by NATO air forces. The United States usually refers to Quick Reaction Alert as 'Airspace Control Alert'. Some non-NATO countries also maintain QRA, either full-time or part-time. Volkel Air Base
Volkel Air Base ( nl, Vliegbasis Volkel) is a military airbase used by the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) - Dutch: ''Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu)'', and is located near the village of Volkel in North Brabant, Netherlands.
