Sky Sports Radio (formerly 2KY) is a commercial radio station based in Sydney, broadcasting throughout New South Wales and Canberra on a network of over 140 narrowcast transmitters as well as the main 1017 AM frequency in Sydney. It broadcasts live commentary of thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing. Over 1,500 races are covered each week, including the pre and post race form and TAB betting information. History Sky Sports Radio was founded by Emil Voigt as 2KY under the ownership of the Labor Council of New South Wales with the aim of broadcasting 'musical entertainment, news, weather, market reports, public debates and matters of educational value'. Night broadcasts of trotting began in 1949 with greyhound racing following soon after. In the 1960s the station took over thoroughbred racing commentary from 2GB. Ron Casey (Sydney Broadcaster)
Ronald Arthur Casey (5 July 1929 – 2 October 2018) was an Australian television presenter, sports journalist and talk-back radio host based in Sydney, New South Wales. Early life Casey was born in Lismore, New South Wales on 5 July 1929, but moved to Sydney with his mother, Nellie Thorne, and brother, John Francis Casey, and settled at Coogee, New South Wales, when he was 10. In 1944, Casey was a New South Wales state swimming champion, and he went on to work for thirteen years as a professional swimming coach at North Sydney Olympic Pool after covering the swimming events at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics as a freelance journalist. Media career Casey's career began at radio station 2KY in 1948. Tiger Black
Ernest Harold 'Tiger' Black BEM (1918 – 30 August 1983) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s and 1940s. He later became a rugby league broadcaster and commentator. Playing career Born and raised at Arncliffe, New South Wales, Ernie 'Tiger' Black began playing rugby league with his local Arncliffe Scots club in the early 1930s. He played Presidents Cup with St. George Dragons and was graded in 1937. He was a tenacious hooker, standing only 5 ft 1in (155 cm) and weighing only 60 kg. He raked against the biggest players of his day, always holding his own. Due to his small stature, and fearless disposition, he became forever known by the nickname 'Tiger'. Malcolm T Elliott
Malcolm T. Elliott (13 May 1946 – 8 August 2019) was an Australian radio personality, television host and journalist. Early life and education He was born Malcolm Allan Elliott at Coburg, Victoria, on 13 May 1946, to Allan Hamilton Elliott and Marion Rose Elliott (née Walters). Career Elliott started out as a printing compositor with Leader Group newspapers in Melbourne. He entered radio at the completion of his apprenticeship in February 1967 at 3NE Wangaratta, moved after only six months to 3SR Shepparton where he hosted the successful breakfast show. The Totalisator Agency Board, universally shortened to TAB or T.A.B., is the name given to monopoly totalisator organisations in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. They operate betting shops and online betting. They were originally government owned, but in Australia most have been privatised. Emil Voigt (athlete)
Emil Robert Voigt (31 January 1883 – 16 October 1973) was a British athlete, winner of the Olympic 5 miles race in 1908 representing Great Britain. Biography Born in Manchester to German parents, Voigt won the 1908 Amateur Athletic Association (AAA) championship in the 4 miles, making him one of the favourites for the 5 miles at the 1908 Summer Olympics, which were held in London. Voigt, a vegetarian, indeed won the race easily, and became the second and last Olympic champion in the event, which was replaced by the 5000 m and 10000 m events in 1912. After winning three more AAA titles in 1909 and 1910, as well as winning numerous other races in the UK and in Europe, he emigrated to Australia in 1911. He won a number of Australian titles over the next three years then retired from athletics in 1914 when the outbreak of war in Europe put an end to his career.
