2023 Slovak Cup Final
The 2023 Slovak Cup final (known as the Slovnaft Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the final match of the 2022–23 Slovak Cup, the 54th season of the top cup competition in Slovak football. It was played at the Anton Malatinský Stadium in Trnava, Slovakia, on 1 May 2023. It was contested by the defending champions Spartak Trnava and Slovan Bratislava. Interestingly, these teams also met in the 2022 final, and then Slovan Bratislava played at their home stadium. In total, it was the sixth final since the competition was established, in which the fierce rivals met. Trnava won the match 3–1 after extra time, after the game finished 1–1 in 90 minutes. 2022–23 Slovak Cup
The 2022–23 Slovak Cup was the 54th edition of the competition. Spartak Trnava were the defending champions, defeating their rivals Slovan Bratislava in the 2022 final. Spartak Trnava won a second consecutive title, defeating again Slovan in the final. Spartak Trnava earned automatic qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round. Format The Slovak Cup is played as a knockout tournament. All matches that end up as a draw after 90 minutes are decided by penalty shoot-outs. All rounds are played as one-off matches except the semi-finals, which are played over two legs. Penalty Shootout (football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any). The 2022–23 Slovak First Football League only known as Fortuna Liga for sponsorship reasons, will be the 30th season of first-tier football league in Slovakia since its establishment in 1993.
