2022–23 Montenegrin First League
The 2022–23 Montenegrin First League was the 17th season of the first tier association football in the country of Montenegro. The season began on 23 July 2022 and ended on 25 May 2023. The winners of the league qualified for a place in the 2023–24 UEFA Champions League. FK Sutjeska Nikšić, Sutjeska were the defending champions having won the league in the previous season. Teams FK Podgorica (relegated after three years in the top flight) and FK Zeta, Zeta (never relegated from the top flight)(relegated after sixteen years in the top flight) were relegated after finishing tenth in the previous season. FK Jedinstvo Bijelo Polje, Jedinstvo (promoted after a five-year absence) and FK Arsenal Tivat, Arsenal (promoted for the first time in its history) will replace them in the league after earning promotion from the Montenegrin Second League as league champions in the previous season. Montenegrin First League
The First League of Montenegro ( Montenegrin: ''Prva crnogorska fudbalska liga'' — ''Prva CFL'' — ''1. CFL''; ) is the top football league in Montenegro. Founded in 2006, competition is headed by the Football Association of Montenegro. 10 teams participate in this league. The winner of the Montenegrin First League starts the qualifications for the UEFA Champions League from the second round. The second and third placed team and Montenegrin Cup winner play in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Conference League. The last placed team is directly relegated to the Montenegrin Second League, and the two others are playing in Montenegrin First League playoffs. History Before independence As a part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Montenegrin clubs played in Montenegrin Football Championship which was formed in 1922.
