2022 United States House Of Representatives Democratic Caucus Leadership Election
A leadership election was held by the United States House of Representatives Democratic Caucus before the beginning of the 118th United States Congress on January 3, 2023 following the retirement of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer. Jim Clyburn, the current House Majority Whip, is seeking another job within the Caucus. With Pelosi's retirement from the post, the Democratic Caucus will vote for a new leader for the first time in 20 years. The following positions were nominated or elected on November 30: House Minority Leader, House Minority Whip, Democratic Caucus Chair, House Assistant Minority Leader, and Democratic Caucus Vice Chair. The House Democratic Caucus is a congressional caucus composed of all Democratic Representatives in the United States House of Representatives and is responsible for nominating and electing the Democratic Party leadership in the chamber. In its roles as a party conference, the caucus writes and enforces rules of conduct and discipline for its members, approves committee assignments, and serves as the primary forum for development of party policy and legislative priorities. Katherine Marlea Clark (born July 17, 1963) is an American politician who has served as the U.S. Representative for Massachusetts's 5th congressional district since 2013. She has been Assistant House Democratic Leader (officially Assistant Speaker) since 2021, making her the fourth-highest-ranking House Democrat, and has been elected minority whip for the session starting in 2023. Her district includes many of Boston's northern and western suburbs, such as Medford, Framingham, Woburn, Waltham and her home city of Revere. Joyce Marie Beatty (; née Birdsong, March 12, 1950) is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for Ohio's 3rd congressional district since 2013, and as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus since 2021.
