2021 NAB League Girls Season
The 2021 NAB League Girls season was the fifth season of the NAB League Girls competition for under-19 female Australian rules footballers in Victoria. The season commenced on 6 February and concluded with the Grand Final on 16 May. The premiership was won by Oakleigh Chargers, who defeated Geelong Falcons in the Grand Final. Format The league consisted of 13 full-time teams (12 from Victoria and 1 from Tasmania) that competed in a nine-round regular season. There were also five academy teams that were to partake in some matches but were not eligible for finals (those teams were Sydney Swans Academy, GWS Giants Academy, Brisbane Lions Academy, Gold Coast Suns Academy and Northern Territory; though the Lions and Suns did not play any officially recognised matches). Oakleigh Chargers
The Oakleigh Chargers is an Australian rules football club playing in the NAB League, the top statewide under-18 competition in Victoria, Australia. They are based at Warrawee Park in Oakleigh, Victoria, representing the southeastern suburban area of Melbourne. The Chargers were one of two additional metropolitan clubs introduced to the competition in 1995 as part of a plan by the AFL to replace the traditional club zones with independent junior clubs. This was to help aid in player development and the process of the AFL draft. In June 2008 the Chargers moved into a new pavilion at Warrawee Park. The chargers are aligned to Collingwood, Richmond & Port Melbourne. Tasmanian AFL Bid
The Tasmanian AFL bid refers to several Australian rules football teams that have proposed to eventually join the Australian Football League (AFL) and the AFL Women's (AFLW). Proposals have been made on several occasions since the expansion of the Victorian Football League into an Australia-wide competition started in 1987. The current bid, put forward in 2021, is being voted on in late September 2022 by the 18 existing AFL clubs, with the licence being for their proposed entry in 2027. Clause 27(a) of the AFL Constitution states that if the AFL Commission approves certain extraordinary motions, including the admission of a new club, a two-thirds majority of the clubs is required to veto the Commission's decision: thus, with the AFL Commission agreeing to the entry of a Tasmanian club, at least seven of the 18 clubs (i.e. one-third plus one) would be required to vote in favor of their entry. Chirnside Park (stadium)
Chirnside Park (also known as Avalon Airport Oval due to naming rights) is an Australian rules football ground in Werribee, Victoria, Australia, located between Watton Street and the Werribee River. Chirnside Park is the home ground of Victorian Football League team Werribee Tigers who have played at the ground since their inception in 1965. For the 2011 VFL season, Williamstown Football Club played the majority of its home games at Chirnside Park while their home ground Burbank Oval is being redeveloped. Western Region Football League first division finals have been played at the venue since 2011. Chirnside Park has a main social club building on the wing with terracing for spectators. A small wooden grandstand, believed to date to the 1910s or 1920s, is situated in the forward pocket next to it. Windsor Park, Tasmania
Windsor Park is an Australian Rules football ground that is home to the Launceston Football Club and has been since 1968 when the club was a member of the former NTFA competition. It is currently a venue in the Tasmanian State League. The grounds do not have established grandstands, but has had portable grandstand seating erected since Launceston joined the TSL competition, it also has a social clubroom building and a two-storey change room and viewing area beside it which was severely damaged by fire in 2007. The Windsor Park area includes Australian Rules Football, Cricket and Soccer grounds and is located by the banks of the Tamar River in the suburb of Riverside, Launceston, Australia. Shepley Oval
Shepley Oval is a football and cricket field located in Dandenong in south-eastern Melbourne. It presently serves as the home ground of the Dandenong Cricket Club in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition, and of the Dandenong Stingrays in the TAC Cup football competition. Shepley Oval is located at the eastern end of Dandenong Park, immediately north of the Dandenong Creek. The parkland was used for sports in the late 19th century, but throughout the early half of the 20th century until the 1960s, the premier venue for sports in Dandenong was the Dandenong Showgrounds (which at that time was located in Clow Street, the site presently occupied by the Dandenong Municipal Offices). Warrawee is a suburb on the Upper North Shore of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Bendigo Pioneers
The Bendigo Pioneers is an Australian rules football team in the statewide Victorian under-18s league, the NAB League. Synopsis The Bendigo Pioneers is an Australian rules football team playing in NAB League since 1993 based in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. The idea behind the Bendigo Pioneers is to train its players and condition them for professional football. The team is divided into under-15s, under-16s, and under-18s. The Pioneers train at Epsom/Huntly Oval, Epsom, Victoria, Epsom. Their jersey colors are blue, white and yellow with blue, white and yellow socks and blue (home) or white (away) shorts. Sandringham Dragons
The Sandringham Dragons are an Australian rules football club playing in the NAB League, the top statewide under-18 competition in Victoria, Australia. They are based at the Trevor Barker Oval in Sandringham, Victoria, representing the southern suburban area of Melbourne. The Dragons were one of the founding metropolitan clubs of the competition in 1992 as part of a plan by the Victorian State Football League to replace the traditional club zones with independent junior clubs. This was to help aid in player development and the process of the AFL draft. The club was originally named the ''Central Dragons'' and played out of Toorak Oval in Prahran, Victoria. In 1995 the name of the club was changed to ''Prahran Dragons'' as part of the agreement which saw the Prahran Two Blues exit the senior Victorian Football League. The Murray Bushrangers is an Australian rules football team playing in Victorian statewide under-18s competition, presently known as the NAB League, since 1993 based in Wangaratta. The team trains on Norm Minns Oval. The team is coached by Mark Brown. Guernsey colours are Black, Purple and Yellow, with black socks and black (home) or white (away) shorts. Greater Western Victoria Rebels
The Greater Western Victoria Rebels is an Australian rules football club which plays in the NAB League, the statewide under-18s competition in Victoria, Australia. Initially known as the Ballarat Rebels and wearing green and gold, the team was established in 1993 as one of four regional under-18s clubs, set up as part of a plan by the AFL Commission to have clubs set in all regions of the state of Victoria. The club became affiliated with the new VFL's North Ballarat Football Club in 1996, and changed its name to North Ballarat Rebels and its colours to black and white to reflect this. In January 2017, the club again changed its name to Greater Western Victoria Rebels to reflect their expanded recruitment zone. Western Jets
The Western Jets is an Australian rules football club which plays in the Victorian premier U19 competition, the NAB League, since its inception in 1992. The club have developmental squads in the U16, however much of the attention is towards its U18 team. The club is geographically set in Melbourne's West as part of a decision by AFL Victoria (formerly Football Victoria) to have clubs in all regions of the state. The club trains in Melbourne's inner west at Crofts Reserve in Altona North and plays NAB League matches at Burbank Oval in Williamstown. Their current coach is Robbie Chancellor, who replaced Ryan O’Keefe at the end of the 2020 season. The Calder Cannons is an Australian rules football club from Melbourne, Australia. The club competes in the NAB League, the Victorian Statewide Under-18s competition, and fields squads in the Under-15s, Under-16s and Under-18s. The club was formed in 1995 after the need for two more metropolitan clubs. The geographic catchment area for the club is the north western suburbs of Melbourne extending to cover the Macedon Ranges area.
