2019–20 West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Season
The 2019–20 West Coast Conference men's basketball season began with practices in September 2019 and will end with the 2020 West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament in March 2020. This is the 69th season for WCC men's basketball, and the 31st under its current name of "West Coast Conference". The conference was founded in 1952 as the California Basketball Association, became the West Coast Athletic Conference in 1956, and dropped the word "Athletic" in 1989. Head coaches Coaching changes On March 26, 2019 Dave Rose announced his retirement after 14 seasons as the head coach at Brigham Young University. His career record at BYU was 348-135 with 8 seasons where his team qualified for the NCAA tournament. Shortly thereafter, Mark Pope, the head coach at Utah Valley University, was announced as the head coach at BYU. Pope had previously been an assistant coach at BYU from 2011-15. NCAA Division I (D-I) is the highest level of College athletics, intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States, which accepts players globally. Herbert Joseph Sendek Jr. (born February 22, 1963) is an American college basketball coach who is the current men's basketball head coach at Santa Clara. Early life Herbert Joseph Sendek, Jr. of Slovak descent, grew up in Pittsburgh and attended Penn Hills High School. Malik Jahmal Fitts (born July 4, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for the Ontario Clippers of the NBA G League. He previously played for the Boston Celtics. He played college basketball for the South Florida Bulls and the Saint Mary's Gaels. Jahlil Tripp (born September 22, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for the Rayos de Hermosillo of the Circuito de Baloncesto de la Costa del Pacífico (CIBACOPA). He played college basketball for the South Plains Texans and the Pacific Tigers. High school career Tripp played basketball for Brooklyn Collegiate High School in Brooklyn, New York. The Paycom Wooden Legacy is an annual early-season men's college basketball competition that began in 2013. It is named in honor of basketball coach John Wooden, whose UCLA Bruins teams won 10 national championships over the 12 seasons from 1964 to 1975. History and format The Wooden Legacy was formed in 2013 by a merger between the Wooden Classic and DirecTV Classic. Battle 4 Atlantis
The Battle 4 Atlantis is an early-season college basketball tournament. It takes place at Atlantis Paradise Island on Paradise Island in The Bahamas, on the week of the US holiday of Thanksgiving. For sponsorship purposes, the tournament is officially named Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis. The games are played in the Imperial Arena, a grand ballroom which is turned into a basketball venue. The tournament is known for being the richest Division I men's early-season college basketball tournament. Schools are awarded $2 million in exchange for their participation in the men's event. 2019 Maui Invitational Tournament
The 2019 Maui Invitational Tournament was an early-season college basketball tournament played for the 36th time. The tournament began in 1984, and was part of the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Championship Round was played at the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui, Hawaii from November 25 to 27, 2019. Due to COVID-19 concerns in 2020 and 2021, the tournament did not return to Maui until 2022.
