2019–20 Kategoria Superiore
The 2019–20 Kategoria Superiore was the 81st official season, or 84th season of top-tier football in Albania (including three unofficial championships during World War II) and the 20th season under the name Kategoria Superiore. The season began on 23 August 2019 and ended on 29 July 2020. Tirana, won the league title on 19 July 2020 with 2 matches to spare. The winners of this season's Kategoria Superiore earned a place in the first qualifying round of the 2020-21 Champions League, with the second and third placed clubs earning a place in the first qualifying round of the 2020-21 Europa League. The competition was suspended from 12 March to 3 June 2020, due to a pandemic of COVID-19 in Albania. Teams Two clubs earned promotion from the Kategoria e Parë, Bylis and Vllaznia. Kategoria Superiore
The Kategoria Superiore, officially known as Abissnet Superiore for sponsorship reasons, is a professional league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the Albanian football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. It is contested by 10 clubs, and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Kategoria e Parë. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 36 matches each (playing each team in the league four times, twice at home and twice away). The competition was founded in 1930 as the Albanian National Championship during the reign of King Zog, shortly after the creation of the Albanian Football Association. 2017–18 Kategoria E Parë
The 2017–18 Kategoria e Parë was the 70th official season of the Albanian football second division since its establishment. The season began on 16 September 2017 and ended on 16 May 2018. There were 20 teams competing this season, split in 2 groups, each with 10 teams. The top 5 teams from each group qualified to the promotion round, while the last teams qualified to the relegation round. The 2 winners of the qualification round gained promotion to the 2018–19 Kategoria Superiore, and played the division's final against each other. Kastrioti and Tirana were promoted to the 2018–19 Kategoria Superiore. Naftëtari, Shkumbini, Tërbuni, Vllaznia B were relegated to the 2018−19 Kategoria e Dytë. Kukës ( sq-definite, Kukësi) is a city in the Republic of Albania. The city is the capital of the surrounding municipality of Kukës and county of Kukës, one of 12 constituent counties of the republic. It spans and had a total population of 16,719 people as of 2011. Flamurtari Stadium
Flamurtari Stadium ( sq, Stadiumi Flamurtari) is a multi-use stadium in Vlorë, Albania. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of KS Flamurtari Vlorë. The stadium has a capacity of 8.200 people. Before the construction of the stadium, Flamurtari Vlorë played their home games on a field known as Varri i Halimit, which translates to Halimi's Tomb. The field was located near Uji i Ftohtë, which is where the club's training ground is located. The stadium was built in 1961 with an initial capacity of 6,500, and was expanded to 11,000 in 1975 following a reconstruction. Vlorë ( , ; sq-definite, Vlora) is the third most populous city of the Republic of Albania and seat of Vlorë County and Vlorë Municipality. Adush Muça Stadium ( sq, Stadiumi Adush Muça) is a multi-use stadium in Ballsh, Albania. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Bylis. Kategoria e Dytë is the third professional level of football in Albania. It was called the ''Second Division'' until 2003. Kategoria e Dytë has two groups, A and B. which are divided geographically. It is made up of 23 teams. The winners of each group earn the right to be promoted to the Kategoria e Parë and they also play a single final for seasonal champions. Football Club Kamza was a football club based in Kamëz, Albania. Founded on 10 September, the club has competed in the lower levels of Albanian football for much of its history, except for the 2011–12 season where they were promoted to the Kategoria Superiore for the first time but they were relegated in their debut season and have competed in the First Division since. History Background The first game of football to be played in Kamëz took place on 26 July 1908, as a celebration of the Young Turk Revolution which was triggered 16 days earlier by Ahmed Niyazi Bey, who was Albanian. Kategoria e Parë is the second level of professional football in Albania, behind the Kategoria Superiore and above the Kategoria e Dytë. Format Kategoria e Parë was founded in 1930. It is made up of 14 teams. The 2 best ranked teams gain promotion to the Kategoria Superiore, while the teams ranked from the 3rd to the 6th position qualify to a play-off tournament where the winner then plays a promotion play-off match against the 8th ranked team of Kategoria Superiore. The teams that finish in the 4 last positions get relegated to the Kategoria e Dytë. The 9th and 10th ranked teams, qualify to the relegation play-off round.
