Donggang, Pingtung
Donggang Township or Tungkang Township () is an urban township in west-central Pingtung County, Taiwan. Located on Taiwan's western coastline, along the Taiwan Strait, it has one of Taiwan's largest fishing harbors. Dapeng Bay with its national scenic area is just south of Donggang. The town also hosts Donglong Temple (), which is dedicated to "Lord Wen" (, the word Wen is pronounced the same as "plague" in Chinese) and is known for its triannual ceremony of "burning lord's boat" (burning plague boat). History Donggang was opened as a port by the Chinese admiral Koxinga in the 17th century. It was a major commercial port for Taiwan until the end of the 19th century. During Japanese rule, it was placed under Takao Prefecture as Tōkō town (東港街) and served the Japanese naval facilities in Dapeng Bay. Formosa Alliance
The Formosa Alliance () is a political coalition founded in Taiwan on 7 April 2018. The organization reformed as a political party on 20 July 2019. Goals The Formosa Alliance was established on 7 April 2018. Its founding leader was , at the time also chairman of Formosa Television. Other members included Chen Shui-bian, Huang Kuo-chang, Lee Teng-hui, Yu Shyi-kun, and the Taiwan Solidarity Union, as well as several overseas Taiwanese organizations. The organization intended to hold a referendum on independence on 6 April 2019, though this did not occur. Other goals included advocating a change in the island's name from the Republic of China to Taiwan, and to apply for membership in the United Nations. The alliance's first full meeting was held on 16 June 2018. Pan Wen-chung
Pan Wen-chung (; born 28 November 1962) is a Taiwanese educator and politician. He first served as Minister of Education from May 2016 to April 2018 and returned to the post in January 2019. Education Pan obtained his teaching certificate from Taiwan Provincial Junior Teachers’ College in 1983. He then obtained his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in education from National Taiwan Normal University in 1989, 1993 and 2003 respectively. Ministry of Education Pan was named Minister of Education in April 2016, and took office on 20 May. On 13 October 2016, Pan unveiled the ''Youth Employment Pilot Program'' at the Executive Yuan to help the low income high school graduates to college or careers in which those qualified will get a NT$5,000 monthly subsidy. Tainan
Tainan (), officially Tainan City, is a Special municipality (Taiwan), special municipality in southern Taiwan facing the Taiwan Strait on its western coast. Tainan is the oldest city on the island and also commonly known as the "Capital City" for its over 200 years of history as the capital of Taiwan under Koxinga and later Qing rule. The Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City () is an industrial park in Gueiren District, Tainan, Taiwan. Hualien City
Hualien City (; Wade-Giles: Hua¹-lien² Shih⁴; Hokkien POJ: ''Hoa-lian-chhī'' or ''Hoa-liân-chhī'') is a county-administered city and the county seat of Hualien County, Taiwan. It is located on the east coast of Taiwan on the Pacific Ocean, and has a population of 106,368 inhabitants. Name Hualien County annals () record that the city was called "Kilai" () until the early twentieth century. This name refers to the Sakiraya Taiwanese aborigines and their settlement. Hualien Al-Falah Mosque
The Hualien Al-Falah Mosque () is a mosque in Hualien City, Hualien County, Taiwan. It is the ninth and latest mosque built in Taiwan. It is also the first mosque in Hualien County. History The mosque was inaugurated by former Indonesian Minister of Law and Human Rights Mahfud MD on 18 March 2018. On 10 November 2019, an information and complaint service counter for Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan was established at the meeting room of the mosque building. Activities The mosque is the venue for Quran recitation activities by Majelis Taklim Nurul Iman Hualien. The mosque is also the center for information and complaint center for the migrant workers from Indonesia. Taiwan Travel Act
The Taiwan Travel Act (, ) is an Act of Congress, Act of the United States Congress. Passed on February 28, 2018, it was signed into law by President of the United States, President Donald Trump on March 16, 2018. As a follow-up to the Taiwan Relations Act, the bill allows high-level officials of the United States to visit Taiwan and vice versa. The law is considered a substantial upgrade to Taiwan–United States relations, making them official though still sub-Diplomacy, diplomatic. As such, the law was harshly criticized by the government of the People's Republic of China in Beijing (which had formally protested the bill through ambassador Cui Tiankai, demanding it not pass) for violating the One-China policy, One-China principle, which holds that Taiwan is an inalienable sovereign part of China.
