2018 British National Track Championships
The 2018 British National Track Championships were a series of track cycling competitions held from 26–28 January 2018 at the Manchester Velodrome. They are organised and sanctioned by British Cycling, and were open to British cyclists. The championships were sponsored by HSBC. Rhys Britton (born 13 May 1999) is a British and Welsh road and track cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Continental team . Career He represented Wales at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where he competed in the men's road race. Britton became a five times British champion after winning the Points Championship at the 2019 British National Track Championships and 2020 British National Track Championships and the Scratch Championship in 2020. He had previously won both the team pursuit title and Madison title. Team Pursuit
The team pursuit is a track cycling event similar to the individual pursuit, except that two teams, each of up to four riders, compete, starting on opposite sides of the velodrome. Race format Both men's and women's events are competed over a distance of 4 km, by a team of 4 riders. Prior to the start of the 2012–13 season the women's event was competed over a distance of 3 km, by a team of 3 riders. As with the individual pursuit, the objective is to cover the distance in the fastest time or to catch and overtake the other team in a final. Riders in a team follow each other closely in line, drafting to minimize total drag, and periodically the lead rider (who works the hardest) peels off the front, swings up the track banking and rejoins the team at the rear. John Archibald (born 14 November 1990) is a Scottish racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam . Career He competed in the men's individual pursuit event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Daniel Bigham
Daniel John Bigham (born 2 October 1991) is a British racing cyclist, who rode for UCI Continental team from 2018 until 2021. He rode in the men's individual pursuit event at the 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. Starting in 2022, he also works for Ineos Grenadiers as a performance engineer, helping the riders on the team improve their aerodynamic performance. At the 2022 British National Track Championships in Newport, Wales he won another British title after winning the pursuit title. Alongside Charlie Tanfield, Ethan Vernon and Oliver Wood, Bigham won silver in the team pursuit at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Charles Tanfield (born 17 November 1996) is a British Track & Road Cycle sport, racing cyclist, who rides for UCI Continental team Saint Piran (cycling team). He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo in the Team pursuit, Mens Team Pursuit. He rode in the 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships – Men's team pursuit, men's team pursuit event at the 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, winning the gold medal. Individual Pursuit
The individual pursuit is a track cycling event where two cyclists begin the race from a stationary position on opposite sides of the track. It is held at over for men and for women. The riders start at the same time and set off to complete the race distance in the fastest time. They ride on the pursuit line at the bottom of the track to find the fastest line, with each rider trying to catch the other who started on the other side. If the catch is achieved, the successful pursuer is the winner. However, they can continue the rest of the race distance to set the fastest time in a qualifying race or a record in a final. Qualification and race format The first round of the competition at major events is the qualifying round. This still involves two riders on the track at the same time but they are not directly competing against each other but attempting to set the fastest time to progress in the competition. Hamish Turnbull (born 1999) is a British track cyclist. Cycling career Turnbull became British champion when winning the Sprint Championship at the 2020 British National Track Championships. Thomas Rotherham (24 August 1423 – 29 May 1500), also known as Thomas (Scot) de Rotherham, was an English cleric and statesman. He served as bishop of several dioceses, most notably as Archbishop of York and, on two occasions as Lord Chancellor.
