It was the 82nd edition of the Bretagne Classic Ouest–France and the 32nd event of the 2018 UCI World Tour. It was won for a second time by Oliver Naesen, winning the sprint ahead of Michael Valgren and Tim Wellens. 2018 UCI World Tour
The 2018 UCI World Tour was a competition that included thirty-seven road cycling events throughout the 2018 men's cycling season. It was the tenth and final edition of the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2009. The competition began with the opening stage of the Tour Down Under on 16 January and concluded with the final stage of the Tour of Guangxi on 21 October. Belgium's Greg Van Avermaet was the defending champion. Oliver Naesen
Oliver Naesen (; born 16 September 1990) is a Belgian professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Considered a specialist of the one-day classics, he won the 2017 Belgian National Road Race Championships, as well as the Bretagne Classic in 2016 and 2018. He is the brother of fellow racing cyclist Lawrence Naesen. Career 2014–2016 Naesen turned professional in August 2014 as a stagiaire with the team, before joining in 2015 and Swiss UCI WorldTeam in 2016. He made his Grand Tour debut at the 2016 Tour de France, in which he was awarded the combativity award on the fourth stage. Michael Valgren Hundahl (né Andersen; born 7 February 1992) is a Danish professional road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . In 2018, Valgren won Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the Amstel Gold Race. Career He became a professional in 2011 at the age of just 19 riding for the Danish continental team , where he won two editions of the U23 Liège–Bastogne–Liège and several other noticeable wins. Tim Wellens (born 10 May 1991) is a Belgian professional road cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He is the son of former racing cyclist Leo Wellens and the nephew of cyclists Paul and Johan Wellens. Road bicycle racing is the cycle sport discipline of road cycling, held primarily on paved roads. Bretagne Classic
The Bretagne Classic, also called Bretagne Classic Ouest–France, is an elite cycling classic held annually in late summer around the Breton village of Plouay in western France. The race was originally named Grand–Prix de Plouay and, from 1989 to 2015, GP Ouest–France. It was included in the inaugural UCI ProTour in 2005 and in 2011 in its successor, the UCI World Tour. Since 2016 it is called Bretagne Classic Ouest–France. Since 2002, a women's event, the GP Plouay–Bretagne is organized on Saturday, the day before the men's race.
