2017–18 Liga II
The 2017–18 Liga II (also known as 2017–18 Liga II Casa Pariurilor) was the 78th season of the Liga II, the second tier of the Romanian football league system. The season began on 5 August 2017 and ended on 2 June 2018. A total of 20 teams contested the league. It was the second Liga II season with a single series. The season was played in a round-robin tournament. The first two teams promoted to Liga I at the end of the season and the third-placed team played a play-off match against the 12th-placed team from Liga I. The last five teams relegated to Liga III. CS Afumați
Club Sportiv Afumați, commonly known as CS Afumați or simply as Afumați, is a Romanian football club based in Afumați, Ilfov County, currently playing in the Liga III. History CS Afumați was founded in 1996 and played in Liga IV until the summer of 2011 when the club obtained a place in Liga III despite the fact that it failed to promote. In Liga III the team from Afumați has become known as a heavy-handed team finishing always in top 5, 3rd place in the first season, 5th place in the second one, then again on the 3rd place and missed promotion in front of Chindia Târgovişte at the end of 2014–15 Liga III season. Team's constancy came to fruition in the 2015–16 season when they managed to promote to Liga II even in the last round after a dramatic match against CS Ştefăneşti. Liga II
The Liga 2, most often spelled as Liga II, is the second level of the Romanian football league system. The league changed its name from Divizia B just before the start of the 2006–07 Liga II, 2006–07. It is currently Sponsor (commercial), sponsored by Casa Pariurilor, a betting company with the official name Liga 2 Casa Pariurilor. Format Divisions Since its inception in 1934, Liga II had between 2 and 9 parallel divisions, with clubs divided based on geographic regions. Generally, Seria I included eastern teams while Seria II included western sides, although clubs near the center of the country are allowed to choose in which series they will compete. The first six teams from each series participate in a play-off for potential promotion to Liga I. The teams placed from 7th to 12th will play a relegation play-off, where the last two teams are relegated to Liga III. CS Șoimii Pâncota
Șoimii Pâncota was a Romanian professional football club from Pâncota, Arad County, Romania, founded in 1938. From August 2016, the home matches were played at Otto Greffner Stadium, in Șiria, Arad County, until their dissolution in October 2016. History Early Years The first document dates from 1923, at that time the team was called Spartak Pâncota. The team played in a landscaped garden on the site of the markets and the colors were green and white and played in the Western League with similar teams from Șiria, Lipova, Salonta, Arad, etc. Representative members of the batch at the time were: Beszeny, Vagalau, Cornel Vuia, Stark, Schmidth, Chebeleu, Hipp, Pohaner, Badovics, Ardelean, Coroban. ACS Berceni was a Romanian professional football club from Berceni, Romania, founded in 2008 and dissolved in 2016. In their last season, they played in the Liga II, in the 2016–17 season. History Founded in 1957, the team from Berceni didn't achieve much during its existence evolving only at the level of county football. However, in 2005–06 season, after businessman Marian Dodu taken over the club and renamed as Dodu Berceni, reached Liga III, winning Divizia D – Ilfov County and the promotion play-off against the champion of Divizia D – Dâmbovița County, Gaz Metan Finta (6–0 at Ploiești). CS Unirea Tărlungeni was a Romanian football club based originally in Tărlungeni, Brașov County and for a short period in Ștefăneștii de Jos, Ilfov County, which last played in the Liga II. History CS Unirea Tărlungeni was founded in 1983 and was assigned to Division C (later Liga III). In 2010, the team was taken over by former player of Unirea Urziceni, László Balint. The 2016–17 Liga I (also known as Liga 1 Betano for sponsorship reasons) was the 99th season of the Liga I, the top professional league for Romanian association football clubs. The season began on 22 July 2016 and concluded on 5 June 2017, being the second to take place since the play-off/play-out format has been introduced. FC Viitorul Constanța, Viitorul Constanța were crowned champions for the first time in their history. Teams The last two teams from the 2015–16 Liga I, 2015–16 season, ACS Poli Timișoara and FC Petrolul Ploiești, Petrolul Ploiești, were relegated to their respective 2016–17 Liga II division. Fotbal Club Metaloglobus București, commonly known as Metaloglobus București or simply as Metaloglobus, is a Romanian football club based in București, currently playing in the Liga II. History Metaloglobus București was founded in 1923 as the football team of the Metaloglobus factory, a powerful factory that was founded in the same year by the Austrian industrialist Manfréd Weiss. The factory has been developed more in the communist period and produced all kinds of objects made of steel and iron from lanterns, bullets, boilers and from 1965 they started to produce toys. After the 1989 Romanian Revolution, the factory began to have financial problems and in 2000 was bought by Syrian businessman Imad Kassas. The football team experienced success.
